Book Review: Lonely for You Only

Lonely for You Only by Monica Murphy is a Lancaster novel and was a really quick read for me this week.

As mentioned above this is a Lancaster novel, but doesn’t take place at Lancaster Prep. The novel follows Scarlett Lancaster who just graduated from Lancaster Prep. She is the only daughter and oldest child of Fitz Lancaster. The story begins at Scarlett’s 18th birthday party at The Plaza. Her parents throw her an extravagant party and her dad has a surprise for her. He got Tate Ramsey, the former boy band star that Scarlett used to love in her younger teen years, to perform at the party.

Annoyed that the guy she has had a crush on for years left her party early, Tate goes to talk to Scarlett since the birthday girl looks upset. They notice that an uninvited photographer is spying on them and when they realize it looks like they’re arguing they decide to kiss to avoid bad press. That kiss changes their lives. Tate who has been struggling the past few years after a string of bad decisions, drinking, and drugs blew up his career and reputation has skyrocketed in popularity again. Scarlett, who is always overshadowed by her family name and her dad’s larger than life personality, is finally being seen as her own person. When Tate’s old record label wants to sign him to a new deal, he is over the moon. But the deal comes with a stipulation. Scarlett has to be his girlfriend and come out with him to LA while he records his new album. The deal seems like it would benefit them both so they decide to fake date and live together for the next few weeks in LA. But can they keep it a business deal when they have been attracted to each other since the night of the birthday party?

I loved Scarlett and Tate as characters and the premise of the book was really good. However, not a lot happened. They met, made their deal, go to LA, the conflict happened at like 90% and then was quickly resolved. I don’t mind the conflict being short lived because I hate when the third act breakup lasts for too long, but in general I felt like not a lot was going on. Nonetheless, I still loved the characters and the fake dating was fun. And I will always love reading about the Lancasters!

Read this if you want a spicy billionaire romance with the fake dating trope.
