Book Review: Defy Me

Somehow I’m 8 books in to the Shatter Me series (novellas included) by Tahereh Mafi already! Last week I read Defy Me and loved it. This review does contain spoilers for previous books!

The novel picks up where Restore Me and Shadow Me (the novella told from Kenji’s POV) left off. Juliette has been taken by her biological parents and they are torturing her and attempting to wipe her memory. Aaron Warner has been taken too and is beginning to remember all the memories he has had of Juliette or Ella that were wiped from his memory over the years. Both Juliette and Aaron are trying to escape wherever they’re being held and find each other and their friends.

Meanwhile, Kenji and Nazeera work together to find a way to rescue Juliette and Aaron before the Reestablishment tortures them more and/or kills them.

This whole book was so packed with action, revelations, and raised some more questions. The history we learn Juliette and Aaron share is so heartbreaking and actually makes the earlier books make so much more sense. I just need them to have a happy ending!

I continue to grow more invested and love each Shatter Me book more the further I get into the series!
