Book Review: Games Untold
I will read anything that Jennifer Lynn Barnes writes about the Hawthornes. I am a huge fan of The Inheritance Games series and all the spinoff books and books she’s wrote in continuation of the original trilogy. I spent this week reading her latest, Games Untold, which is a collection of stories about the Hawthornes, Avery, and her sister, Libby. The book includes 2 novellas and 6 short stories.

I loved every story in the book, but I especially loved “The Same Backward as Forward” which is the story about Avery’s mom, Hannah, and Tobias Hawthorne (the uncle, not the grandfather). I loved the story and became so invested in Hannah and Toby’s story. At times I loved their story so much that it would take me a second to remember that Hannah eventually passes away since The Inheritance Games starts off with Avery on her own.
The novel also includes the novella about what happened to Jameson in Prague, which is alluded to in The Brothers Hawthorne, a short story highlighting Nash and Libby’s relationship from when they first met to when they’re engaged and beyond, a short story about Xander’s penchant for tackling people (I forgot how funny and quirky he is), a very Hawthorne Secret Santa game, and more.
I just loved the whole book and can’t get enough of these characters!
