Book Review: The Guncle Abroad
The Guncle Abroad by Steven Rowley is one of the two books I read and finished on vacation in the Outer Banks last week. I’ve been looking forward to reading it since I read and loved The Guncle months ago, but was saving it for vacation!

In The Guncle Abroad, five years has passed since the end of The Guncle. Patrick is based out of New York City now to be closer to his family including his niece and nephew Maisie and Grant, but has been in London for the past few months filming a movie. Two bombshells that are dropped on us in the beginning of this book are that he and Emory recently broke up and that his brother, Greg, is getting remarried in Italy!
Understandably, Maisie and Grant are having a hard time with the news of their dad remarrying even if Livia, his fiancée, is beautiful, wealthy, and hails from Italian nobility. Maisie and Grant spend a few weeks with their beloved GUP (Gay Uncle Patrick) traveling around Europe where he tries to teach them about love and get them on board with their dad remarrying and the kids try to talk him in to stopping the wedding.
The book was just as emotional and funny as the first book and I love the relationship between Patrick and the kids. The kids are older now, but there is still this relatable vulnerability to them because of all they’ve been through and continue to deal with that really pulls at your heart strings. I mean, as a reader, I was also a little bitter about the fact that their dad was remarrying at first!
I loved the ending of the book and I hope this isn’t the last we see of these characters!
