Book Review: Maid for Each Other
Lynn Painter books are always guaranteed to be hits for me. She has written some of my all-time favorite books like Better than the Movies and Mr. Wrong Number. So it comes as no surprise that I loved her latest adult romcom, Maid for Each Other.

The novel is a romcom inspired by Pretty Woman and follows Abi Mariano and Declan Powell. Abi works part time as a maid for a home cleaning service and at a grocery store while she gets her Masters degree. She has just enough money to get by so she definitely doesn’t have enough extra money to get a hotel for a week when her apartment is getting fumigated. Knowing that one of the fancy condos she cleans is empty while the owner is out of town, she thinks it will be harmless if she stays there for a few nights since she’ll be cleaning it anyway and the owner will be none the wiser. Except one morning as she gets ready to leave for work, she’s met by an older couple in the kitchen – the owner’s parents! They are in town visiting and they assume Abi is the girlfriend their son, Declan, has been telling them about for the past year but has always been too busy to meet them!
When Declan finds out from his parents that they met his charming girlfriend and his boss also overhears, he has no choice but to get Abi to pretend to be his girlfriend to make his parents happy and to help secure a promotion. Abi agrees to help him out in exchange for a place to stay while her apartment is off-limits and some help with her student loans. But can the two keep it strictly business and keep their relationship fake? Or will their attraction to one another make this fake dating situation more real than they planned?
I loved this book! It was funny and swoon worthy. I loved Abi and Declan. Watching them get to know one another and start to fall for one another was chef’s kiss. They were both great characters and I loved how real they both seemed.
Now, I need a spin-off book about Declan’s best friend, Roman!
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the fake dating trope.

I don’t know anyone who has read this book so I started scouring google to find reviews where I might get an answer back! I just finished this book (I loved it) but I think I either missed it, or it wasn’t tied up — why did Dex’s grandmother make such a scene about having met Abi before? Did I miss where it was revealed that she did actually know her or was it just brushed over?

If I remember correctly I think it was mentioned towards the end and Dex’s grandmother recognized Abi from the store because she would get her supplements or medication there!
