Book Review: A Promise of Peridot

My summer is officially over as I’ve been back to work since Friday. The summer always goes by way too fast. Too fast for my liking. But, it was a good summer overall.

Last week I read the second book in the Sacred Stones series by Kate Golden, A Promise of Peridot.

The novel picks up where book 1, A Dawn of Onyx, left off. Arwen, Kane, and all of their friends and family are sailing to Citrine after the battle at Siren’s Bay in Peridot. They’re hoping Citrine will give them shelter there now that some of the other kingdoms like Amber and Garnet have allied with Kane’s father.

Arwen may have been falling in love with Kane, but now she doesn’t want to have anything to do with him after he kept secrets from her about his powers and his knowledge of a prophecy that includes her role in defeating his father. But can she really avoid him when her feelings are still there and his love for her has not wavered? They, along with Mari and Griffin and others, need to go on an expedition to find the Blade of the Sun from the prophecy for any hope of defeating Kane’s father.

I loved this book and being back in this world with Arwen, Kane, and all the side characters – again especially Mari and Griffin. There was more adventure in this book, but of course I wish Arwen and Kane got past their separation quicker. But it is the middle book of a trilogy so I guess it makes sense to draw out their relationship conflict. A lot of the book was action packed which made it a quick read. And the cliffhanger ending has me anxious for the third and final book! I’m going to start that later this week after my current read.
