Book Review: A Reign of Rose

Earlier this week I finished The Sacred Stones trilogy by Kate Golden with the last book, A Reign of Rose. I loved being back with Arwen, Kane, Mari, Griffin, and others.

The novel picks up shortly after the end of A Promise of Peridot. Arwen was taken to Lumera, the fae realm where Kane’s father, Lazarus, is the king. They all thought that Lazarus wanted to kill his son for leading the revolt against him and his reason for wanting Arwen is because she’s the last full fae and the prophecy says the last full fae would be the one to kill Lazarus. But what he really wants is for Arwen to carry his heirs so they can take over the world with more full faes.

Arwen needs to find a way to escape. Meanwhile, Kane, believing Arwen is dead, is trying to follow a tale/myth he once heard that could make him full fae instead of half and then he can be the one to kill his father. Can they be reunited and defeat Lazarus?

I loved being back in this world and reunited with characters I love. I love Arwen and Kane and how much they love each other and are willing to sacrifice everything for each other. There were some really sad moments that had me tearing up and some side stories that had me really intrigued and wish they were explored. But, I know Kate Golden has said she plans to write spinoff books for Mari & Griffin, Aleksander, and maybe Hart too and those are all stories I’d love to read more about! Especially Mari and Griffin. I hope we hear some news about those plans soon, but I know her contemporary romance just released and the first book from her upcoming urban fantasy series comes out early next year so it might be a little while before we hear any spin-off news.

I’m sad the series is over, but I’m excited for whenever the spinoffs come out because then I’ll be reunited with some of these beloved characters!
