Book Review: Damaged Like Us

If you’ve been following my blog and/or Instagram and book review for a while then you might know that one of my all-time favorite series is the Addicted/Calloway Sisters series by Krista and Becca Ritchie. I love the Hales, Cobalts, and Meadows so I’m excited for all these second generations books. I really want to read their latest book, Burn Bright, the first book in their Cobalt Empire series but I want to try to get through their Like Us series first because I think all these books take place before hand. I’m sure I don’t have to read the Like Us series to be able to understand the Cobalt Empire books but since I love this family anyway it makes sense to.

Damaged Like Us is the first book in the Like Us seres and follows Maximoff “Moffy” Hale, eldest son of Loren and Lily Hale, and Farrow Keene. In this novel, Moffy is 22 years old. He runs one of his family’s philanthropic organizations, is roommates with his best friend and cousin Jane Cobalt, and tries to protect all of his family all the time. Farrow Keene is 27, went to medical school, is the son of the family’s concierge doctor, and one of the bodyguards for the family. Moffy has also had a crush on him since he was a kid and Farrow would come around with his dad. After Moffy’s long-time bodyguard retires, Farrow has been moved from Lily’s detail to now guarding Moffy 24/7. So not only does Moffy have to adjust to a new bodyguard, but it’s a guy he’s had a crush on for years!

It doesn’t take long for Moffy and Farrow to give in to their attraction to one another, but can they keep their relationship a secret from Moffy’s family, the security team, and the public who are obsessed with Moffy?

I really enjoyed this book and being back in the Hale/Cobalt/Meadows world. I thought it was a great 2nd generation novel. I think 2nd generation novels can be tricky sometimes because you want to do the original series justice, but let the 2nd generation characters stand on their own as well. Moffy and Farrow were both great characters and I really liked their story. I can’t wait to see what happens next for them in the next book!
