Bangkok is one of those places that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list because it really is more than a city; it’s an adventure, and it’s an adventure that never fails to surprise you at every turn. From the neon-lit rooftops to the spicy street food and the welcoming locals, there’s something for everyone, and that means planning a trip and making sure you fit everything in so you can experience the place in its wholeness can be tricky, right? But, below, you will find some top tips to help you ensure you have a ball in Bangkok.

1. Start with a Sunrise at Wat Arun

Sleep might be important, but when you’re in Bangkok, you are going to want to rise early at least once during your trip. Why? Because the stunning view as the sun rises over Wat Arun is hard to beat.

Also known as the Temple of the Dawn, and sitting on the Chao Phraya River, Wat Arun is one of the most impressive landmarks in the city and one that will give you memories you’ll never forget. Climb partway up the porcelain-covered spires for a panoramic view of the river and city skyline, and marvel!

2. Cruise the Chao Phraya Like a Local

Forget taxis, Bangkok’s real travel magic happens on the water. Hop on one of the orange-flag commuter boats for a DIY sightseeing tour that costs pocket change. You’ll glide past temples, markets, and luxury hotels, all from the comfort of the river breeze. isembark at Tha Tien Pier for snacks and souvenirs, or head to Asiatique The Riverfront for a lively night market and giant Ferris wheel views.

If you want something fancier, book a dinner cruise. Watching the temples light up while eating pad thai under the stars is pure Bangkok bliss.

3. Eat Your Way Through the City

Food in Bangkok isn’t a meal, it’s an adventure. You’ll find Michelin-starred restaurants steps away from sizzling street stalls, and both are worth your time.

Start in Chinatown (Yaowarat), where hawkers serve legendary oyster omelets, mango sticky rice, and Thai-style dim sum. Then, for a total change of pace, head to Gianni Ristorante Italian Restaurant (https://giannibkk.com/) – a Bangkok institution serving refined Italian fare with warm, old-school hospitality. It’s a local favorite for special occasions and a refreshing contrast after days of chili-laden curries.

Oh, and don’t forget to explore Ari or Ekkamai, Bangkok’s trendier neighborhoods, for hip coffee shops, rooftop bars, and creative Thai fusion dishes.

4. Shop Like You Mean It

Whether you’re into high fashion or handcrafted trinkets, Bangkok delivers. Start at Chatuchak Weekend Market, a 15,000-stall labyrinth selling everything from vintage Levi’s to pet squirrels (yes, really). For air-conditioned comfort, head to Siam Paragon or ICONSIAM, where luxury brands mingle with local designers.

If you prefer something with character, check out Talad Neon Night Market for funky finds and cocktails served in pineapples.

5. Find Your Chill

Bangkok buzzes 24/7, so carve out moments to breathe. Watch the sunset from Vertigo at Banyan Tree, or sip cocktails at Sky Bar – the one made famous in The Hangover Part II. For a slower pace, stroll through Lumphini Park, where monitor lizards roam free and locals practice tai chi at dawn.

Bangkok is a blast, so have a balland enjoy it all!
