Book Review: A Christmas of Chaos

For my 2nd Christmas in July read of the year, I chose A Christmas of Chaos by Scarlett St. Clair.

This is a book that I was really looking forward to reading because it is a short holiday book revisiting the beloved characters from the Hades x Persephone Saga which I loved. Since the main series ended, this was exciting and fun to get to go back to New Greece and the Underworld to see what these characters I love so much are up to.

In the novel or novella, it is the holiday season. The mortals celebrate Christmas and the Gods and Goddesses have incorporated Christmas with some of their other holidays and traditions to make up their own version. Persephone is heavily pregnant with her and Hades’ twins and trying to pull off the best Christmas for all the little ones before she gives birth. She has worked tirelessly, even though Hades has told her to slow down, to bake all the things and decorate multiple trees. But when Hermes accidentally lets the Kallikantzaroi loose, chaos ensues including all the decorations destroyed. The Kallikantzaroi are gremlin like creatures who love to cause chaos and destruction. They steal, they play tricks, and are overall menaces. Now, Hermes needs to fix things to save Christmas and make it up to his best friend, Persephone.

This was a really fun read and was so cute. I loved being reunited with all of these characters even though it was for a short time. Scarlett St. Clair included a section of the novella with Circe and even though we only saw her for a little, she was a great character and her story engaging. I definitely think Scarlett St. Clair should write another spinoff with her as the fmc!

Read this if you’re a fan of the Hades x Persephone Saga and want a little holiday visit with the characters!
