Book Review: The Romance Revival

Earlier this week I finished The Romance Revival, the long anticipated new release from Christina Lauren and I loved it!

The novel follows Emery and Luca, a married couple in San Diego. They’ve been married for 3 years after a whirlwind romance meeting at a wedding and falling in love fast. Luca is a highly in demand landscaper with his best friend, Crash, and Emery is a doctor and develops surgical lasers. But she doesn’t really! Everyone thinks Emery is a doctor who works for a surgical laser company, but she actually works for a secret company and gets paid a lot of money to help develop cutting edge advances in medicine and healthcare. She’s also a workaholic, which has put a strain on her marriage.

On the day of their anniversary, Luca reminds Emery about their dinner reservations. She forgot about their anniversary so she promises she will be at dinner. But when she loses track of time at work and is very late, she rushes home only to find Luca going for a run. She meets him down the street from their house and as he starts to make his way over to her, he gets hit by a car and is fatally injured. However, the compound Emery has been developing and working on for years can revive a person/lower their body temperature low enough to give them time to get help i.e. get life saving surgery before they can bleed out for example. Emery injects Luca with the compound and sneaks him into her lab to put him into a machine her company has developed that can target and repair injuries. She saves his life, but when he wakes he has no memory of her or the past few years.

Will Luca recover his memories? Is this a second chance for Emery and Luca? And what happens if anyone from Emery’s work finds out what she did or if anyone, for that matter, finds out Luca died and she brought him back to life?

I loved this book. Based on the little bit I knew about this book beforehand I didn’t know if it was going to be a paranormal romance, so I was pleasantly surprised that Luca being brought back to life was a science-based storyline and not a zombie storyline haha. Emery and Luca were so good together and despite Emery being obsessed with work and neglectful of Luca, she’s not written in a way (to me) that makes you dislike her. I still really liked her and I believed her character every time she realized she messed up and needed to make up for it or told herself she had to be better. This was a really unique and sweet second chance romance. I loved the epilogue too!
