Book Review: Lost & Found

This past week I read Lost & Found, the last book in the Spunes series by Tarah DeWitt (though I wish she was writing a book about Micah, the last Byrd sibling!).

The novel follows Bea Marshall and Silas Byrd, friends since they were little kids. Bea has been mourning the death of her best friend, Merritt. When she finds out that Merritt left Bea the eggs she froze before her cancer treatments, Bea decides she wants to use them to get pregnant and have a piece of Merritt live on.

Silas is the middle Byrd brother and a firefighter like his older brother, Ellis. Silas is still dealing with the trauma of being badly burned while fighting wildfires.

Bea and Silas have had feelings for each other since they were teens, but Bea would never let herself be with Silas because Merritt always had a crush on him. Now that Merritt has passed and they are both single, can they be together? Especially since Bea moves in to Silas’ spare bedroom at his house in order to rent out her house to save money for her IVF?

The novel follows as the two go through their own healing journeys and also fall for each other as they help each other reclaim their lives.

I loved this book and I loved Silas and Bea. Their love for each other that grows deeper and deeper and I really loved that Bea’s decision to have a baby didn’t deter Silas at all and only made him love her more. I really appreciated that we got to see the other characters, Ellis & Wren and Sage & Fisher. I wish we saw more of Sam and Indy though instead of just mentions of them. I loved the epilogue, but wish there was a bonus epilogue that showed how all the Byrds are doing a few years later. I’m sad the series is over and wish there would be a book about Micah – the last Byrd sibling without a love story! But regardless, the series is worth reading.

Read this if you want a contemporary romance with the right person wrong time, friends to lovers, and forced proximity tropes.
