    Throwback Thursday: Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day is this Sunday, December 7th. I thought I’d do a throwback Thursday post this week and share a few pictures from when I went to the Pearl Harbor Memorial this past August. This photo is from the boat ride from the shore to the USS Arizona Memorial. They let only a certain amount of people onto the Memorial at a time and you have a certain amount of time before you have to get back onto the boat. It’s basically 1 group (boat full) at a time.     It’s a pretty surreal experience to be there and see everything. This memorial is built where the…

    Photo Challenge: Cover Art

Happy Photo Challenge Friday! Also, Happy Halloween! A Halloween post will be coming up later tonight, but in the meantime I’m continuing with my Friday photo challenge routine. This past week Daily Post posed the challenge of coming up with Cover Art. As usual, it’s open to interpretation. I decided to recycle a picture from this summer that I feel would be representative of my life. This was taken in Hawaii back in August, the day after a hurricane. I feel like this would be a great cover art piece for my life because I’m literally looking out at the unknown. It could be a storm brewing or the clouds…

    Photo Challenge: Adventure

The latest photo challenge from The Daily Post is Adventure . Adventure can mean so many different things to different people. It can be going on a road trip, sky diving, trapeze, or even something like trying out a cooking class. I actually have gone to a trapeze class before, but that was a few years ago and I wanted to capture a sense of adventure from something more recent. I decided to go with this picture I took of some surfers in Hawaii when I was there last month. This was taken the day after the hurricane. This was in Kailua-Kona and there were a lot of surfers out that day.…

    Throwback Thursday: Diamond Head

Last month when I was in Hawaii, I went to Diamond Head Crater. Diamond Head is visible from much of Waikiki Beach and is an iconic site. It’s a state park and there is a trail that you can walk/hike up one of the sides of the crater. In case you don’t know, Diamond Head is a crater formed from a volcanic eruption 300,000 years ago. The trail is mostly paved because there are so many visitors. When I say paved, I mean packed dirt to form a trail. The trail was only 0.7 miles so it was by no means a long hike, but parts of it were steep because…

    Hawaii: Food Highlights Part 2

I’m back with part 2 of my food highlights while in Hawaii. I recently posted Part 1 featuring delicious food I ate on the Big Island of Hawaii. Today, I’m going to feature food from Honolulu, Oahu. Hanajuban – Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu, Hawaii – Nice spot for a quick lunch when we first arrived in Honolulu. It’s very small and the lay out is that of a noodle bar. Shoyu Ramen Bali Steak & Seafood Oceanfront – Hilton Hawaiian Village, Honolulu, Hawaii. Great service and ambience and the food was great. The malasada bites were like heaven and something my mom had been looking for our entire trip. Entree – Roasted mahi…

    Photo Challenge: Silhouette

This week’s photo challenge on The Daily Post was Silhouette. When I saw the post with the announcement last week my first reaction was “Noooooo!!” Let me explain. Last Friday I was packing up and getting ready to head home from Hawaii on an evening flight. I had no time to capture a silhouette picture before getting on the plane and Hawaii would’ve given me so many opportunities to get a good silhouette picture. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Since I’ve been home I haven’t gotten any silhouette pictures and truthfully I haven’t even been paying attention during sunset moments because of I’ve been busy seeing friends and running…

Sunset & Stargazing on Mauna Kea

One of the best things I did while in Hawaii was go up Mauna Kea on the Big Island to see the sunset and stargaze. My family and I went with Mauna Kea Summit Adventures which is the oldest company to offer tours up to the summit to see the sunset. I’m not talking about any old sunset. This is a view of the sunset from above the clouds! We were a little under 14,000 ft. up and it was nothing short of amazing. Hoodie: Victoria’s Secret Jeans: Gap  Our guide picked us up in a company van from our hotel. There were 14 people in our van not including our guide.…

    Hawaii Zip Lining Experience

While in Hawaii I went zip lining and had a really fun time! I’ve been ziplining twice before. One of the times was during a whole day excursion in Mexico with friends so the zip line portion was just a few short lines in the middle of a lot of other activities and sightseeing. The other time I went zip lining was when I was visiting a friend in Guatemala and we started on a mountainside and zipped on multiple lines back down. This past trip to Hawaii I went to a ziplining place called Umauma Experience in Hakalau. They offer a few different types of zipline and outdoor activities. The one…

    Photo Challenge: Texture

The Daily Post’s Photo Challenge this week is texture and I thought I’d give it a try since I was inspired by the post about using natural frames in photos (see my post here). I figured being on vacation in Hawaii gave me an even better opportunity to take pictures of textures that I wouldn’t normally find back at home. Here’s what I came up with (first I’ll show you the close up pictures): Here’s where those closeup texture pictures came from: I think I’ll continue doing these weekly photo challenges whenever I am able to. I’ve been finding it enjoyable and I think it really makes me open my…

    Hawaii: Beach & Pool Looks

I’m nearing the end of my vacation in Hawaii and my beach and pool looks are starting to repeat, but I thought I’d show you some looks from the last few days. Top: Mossimo via Target Shorts: Tribal Print Wrap-Front Short from Forever 21 Love these shorts – they’re so cute! And the wrap detail makes them so different than regular shorts. It’s important to note that this is not a stretchy material at all. It is a bit stiff and is not forgiving so it would be a good idea to size up. I wore this outfit over this bathing suit… Swimsuit: Candie’s Vintage Bouquet Floral via Kohls The…
