Photo Challenge: I’d Rather Be…
Yesterday I was supposed to have a delayed opening due to the snow, but it turned out to be a day off. Not one to usually complain about a day off from work (except for now I keep losing days of summer break), I was exceptionally bored yesterday. I’m done with winter now and I really need spring! So for last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post, “I’d Rather Be…” it was a no-brainer. I’d rather be in Hawaii, my favorite place on earth! I’ve shared this photo on here once or twice before, but I don’t think I’ve ever used it for a photo challenge. Regardless, it’s just…

Photo Challenge: Out of This World
I have to preface this post by saying these photos are 100% real! I say that because once you see the large photo of the moon, you might find it unbelievable. When I saw that last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “Out of This World“, I knew this was the photo I had to use. A few years ago, when I was in Hawaii, my family and I went on a tour up to the top of Mauna Kea to see the sunset. On the way down, we stopped halfway for stargazing. The tour company set up a high powered telescope and told us about the constellations and…

Photo Challenge: Wanderlust
As the school year begins to wind down, I have about 6 weeks left, I’m starting to feel the yearly teacher burnout. Exhaustion is catching up with me and I am just trying to make it through the next few weeks. It’s around this time of year that I really wish I was on vacation somewhere. Don’t get me wrong, I catch a major case of wanderlust every time I see amazing travel photos on social media any time of the year. But this time of year is usually when I feel like I need a vacation not just want one. So last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post, “Wanderlust” came…

Photo Challenge: Dense
Happy Friday! Beginning at 3:15 PM today I will officially be on spring break! While I do have some work to get done over the week, I will enjoy not having to wake up before 6am every day. As it’s Friday I’m back with my photo challenge response. Last week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “Dense” and initially I wanted to use a photo of a bamboo forest or really just a patch of bamboo in Hawaii. You may know that bamboo gets really thick and they tend to grow really close to each other creating this dense area of bamboo. However, I couldn’t find the picture I…

Photo Challenge: Future
My original idea for this week’s photo challenge, “Future“, was to use a picture of my seniors throwing their caps into the air at graduation last year. It would be the perfect embodiment of future because the youth, after all, are the future even if it is a little scary to think about at times! But then, I remembered that the photos I have were not taken by me because I was on stage with them. For the past three years I’ve been either reading the names for diplomas, hosting the graduation, or both. Naturally, I don’t bring my phone with me on stage so the photos are all from…

Photo Challenge: One Love
Happy Photo Challenge Friday! It’s been a weird week. On the one hand it feels like the week went by quickly and on the other hand it felt like it took forever. This could possibly be because I felt like I kept losing track of the days this week. In any case, it’s now Friday and I’m here with my photo response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge! This week the challenge was “One Love“. Now, if you’re a regular follower of my blog and/or my photo challenge posts you may be tired of me using archived photos from past trips to Hawaii. Well, if that’s the case, I’m…

Photo Challenge: Happy Place
We made it to Friday! Now just got to get through this work day and then I can officially say “Fri-yay”. This week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post could not have come at a better time. The challenge this past week was “Happy Place”. I mentioned yesterday and earlier in the week that things have been hectic lately so imagining my happy place is a very welcome photo challenge! What I’ve chosen as my happy place is not the kind of place that I can go to whenever I want to unfortunately. Besides being home and/or with loved ones, my favorite place on earth is Hawaii. I’ve spoken about my…

Photo Challenge: On the Way
Happy [Photo Challenge] Friday! I felt like this week went by super slow, but it’s almost the weekend! This past week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post was “On the Way”. The photo challenge prompted participants to share a photo of something they saw on their way to their destination. Oftentimes there are great gems on the way to a destination. The photo I chose, I shared on here last summer, but not for a photo challenge. This amazing picture is an aerial view from my plane on the way to Hawaii. We were getting ready to descend onto Oahu, which was not my final destination — at least not at…

Photo Challenge: Ephemeral
I’m officially on spring break! It was much needed and hopefully it isn’t ephemeral (see what I did there?!). So obviously, the latest photo challenge from The Daily Post is “Ephemeral”, which means lasting for a very short time. Some of the most beautiful photographs are ones that capture something that happens so quickly that you think you or the photographer was so lucky to catch that at just the right moment. This is another one of those photo challenges where it’s really helpful if you already have a photo in your archives because it’s not something you can really look for or force. I thought about pictures I’ve taken…

Photo Challenge: Depth
This past week’s photo challenge was a little tricky. When I read that the challenge was “Depth” I couldn’t think of any pictures I might be taking during the week that would show depth and no random shots came up during the week either. So into old pictures I went and decided on this one: This picture was taken on my way up to the summit of Mauna Kea – a volcano on Hawaii this past August. When you’re hanging out amidst the clouds there is a sense of depth both literally and figuratively. Somewhere beneath those clouds is the ocean and the land. Somewhere up there when you’re surrounded by so much…
