Book Review: The Middle Sister
I’m back with a book review and this time it’s a mystery/detective story. The Middle Sister by Jesse Miles is part of a series about private investigator Jack Salvo. This is the only one in the series that I’ve read so they don’t need to be read in order. In this installment of the Jack Salvo books, Salvo is hired by a wealthy family to find their daughter/sister, Lillie Manning. The mother hires him after her daughter has been missing for a week, but then we don’t really see or hear from her again. Her daughters Zara and Arden – Lillie’s older and younger sisters respectively – are Salvo’s points of contact.…

Book Review: Killing Pace
Another book review coming your way! Killing Pace by Douglas Schofield is a crime/mystery novel. At under 300 pages, it’s a quick and interesting read. It is definitely the kind of crime novel where you are not able to really make predictions or guess what’s going to happen because the reader isn’t given any real clues or hints to theorize on. But, I still enjoyed the book even though I couldn’t make my own guesses – that actually kept me on my toes and kept me reading to find out what would happen next. When the novel begins, the main character is confused and not sure what is going on. She lives…

Book Review: The Dark Gray Blanket
If you’re a long time follower of my blog then you know I love to read. I don’t get to read for long periods of time per day but I’m pretty much always working on a book. Even though it may take me a while to get through with my limited time, I always like to have something to read. After I finished reading Hiddensee: A Tale of the Once and Future Nutcracker, I was looking for my next book so it was perfect timing when The Dark Gray Blanket by H. Burns was sent to me in exchange for a review! The Dark Gray Blanket is a fictional book based on…

Book Review: Murder on the Orient Express
I have a quick book review for you all today. I was in between books and decided to read my first Agatha Christie mystery, Murder on the Orient Express. I had never read anything by Agatha Christie before but since she is/was one of the most famous mystery writers I thought it was about time I read one. Murder on the Orient Express follows Christie’s Belgian detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates a murder that takes place on the Orient Express (self-explanatory) while aboard the sleeper train. So what did I think of it? I thought it was a charming detective novel, but I found it a bit boring to be honest.…

Book Review: The Girl on the Train
Some of you may have already read Paula Hawins’ The Girl on the Train, but I just got around to reading it this summer in time for the movie’s release this fall. When I first heard about the novel, I heard some comparisons to Gone Girl, which I enjoyed because it was one of the first books I had read that had twists that I never saw coming and I loved that. Is it similar? In my opinion it is similar in the fact that there are twists and also plenty of times that I kept trying to figure out what really happened and who is “good”, who’s “bad”, and/or is the…
