My New Mystery: Paper Heart Goodbyes

If you have been keeping up with me on Wattpad, you may know that I have been working on a new story – a mystery this time!

I wanted to try to write a mystery since I enjoyed writing my super short story “Beneath the Surface” earlier this year for a contest. I was a top 10 finalist for that contest so I thought it might be a genre worth exploring. And fall seemed like the perfect time for a mystery.

My new book is called Paper Heart Goodbyes. I have 11 chapters up and I have a few more than that written so far. I think I’m about halfway through writing it.

The novel follows Tess, a recent college graduate and aspiring investigative journalist. Her love of true crime podcasts leads her to learn about a serial killer in California who has been killing couples for the past 3 years. The killer’s calling card? An origami paper heart with the victims’ blood splatter on it. Through her research on message boards, Tess becomes good friends with a girl around her age named Becky. Together they work together to try to figure out who the killer is and launch Tess’ career.

I’m really enjoying writing this so far. The fun part about writing a mystery is dropping little kernels and hints within my chapters that the reader may not even realize is a clue until much later on. I want my readers to have lots of guesses and theories. That’s part of the fun!
