Adovia Dead Sea Salt Scrub

You may have seen this exfoliating body scrub, Adovia’s Dead Sea Salt Scrub, making the rounds in the blogosphere lately and today I bring you my thoughts on it. When I got the opportunity to try it out, I was all for it because who doesn’t need a bit of exfoliation especially when summer is practically on our doorstep which means more skin is inevitably going to be showing.

First some product details according to the brand…

  • This scrub is made with 100% real and pure dead sea salt.
  • The fine grain dead sea salt exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal new, younger looking skin.
  • It also contains moisturizing natural oils which infuse skin with luxurious hydration.

The product comes in a plastic container/jar and has a tightly sealed plastic over it after you unscrew the lid. The plastic, at least on my container, was extremely difficult to remove and I actually still have plastic on it and sort of just made a whole in the center big enough to fit my fingers/hand in to get product out. I tried not to include that in the photos as it’s not very pretty, but you can still see it.

The first thing I noticed was the scent. Immediately after opening the container the room was filled with the scent of the natural oils. It smells just like a spa and definitely reminds me the smell when you’re getting a massage. They must use the same oils. If you don’t enjoy that smell, then I don’t know if you’d like this product because the scent is very powerful. Just opening the product and not even using it will fill the whole bathroom with the smell. I love the smell so it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The oils are all clear and the blue that you see is the fine salt.

So does it exfoliate? I’ve used it a few times over the past 2 weeks and I can’t really tell whether it’s actually exfoliating my skin but it does give it a very moisturized feel. The best way I can describe the feeling of it on your skin is, again, like if you were getting a professional massage and they use the natural oils on you. When you’re rubbing onto your skin (in circular motions) in the shower it has a very oily feel like when you get a massage and you need to wait for that oil to sink into your skin. It’s not a bad feeling, but it’s just not something I’m used to.

I love the smell of the product and the moisturizing feeling of it. I can’t speak to the longterm effects and exfoliation as I’ve only used it a handful of times and not every day (I don’t have time for this sort of pampering on weekdays when I have to go to work!), but it’s definitely a nice product to have and use. The only thing I didn’t like about it is that it’s very messy. The oil just gets everywhere and you may have noticed that my first picture up above has the container sitting on some paper on my counter. That’s because as soon as I touched the container to move it onto the counter my hands were covered in oil. It just manages to get everywhere so I would say the one definite downside is that it’s messy. Other than that I do like the product and especially love smelling like I just came from a luxurious spa!
