How was everyone’s weekend? I had some time to relax, went out for my friends’ birthday, and enjoyed the first two days of Olympic events. Did anyone catch the women’s gymnastics team qualifications last night? Simone Biles is crazy good! Or the Men’s freestyle relay where Michael Phelps won his 19th gold medal? Or Katie Ledecky winning gold by a landslide? Amazing! Enough about that, I’ll be keeping track of my favorite moments to recap after the games are over.
At the end of last month, I became acquainted with a new Google Chrome plugin called Where in the World by Take the Tent. The creator reached out to me after seeing my tweets with the hashtag #wanderlust accompanying my recent travel posts and asked if I would be interested in trying it out.
So what is this plugin? Every time you open a new tab in Google Chrome, the background will be a beautiful picturesque photo from somewhere around the world. Now, this sounds pretty great, but wait it gets even better. Not only will the background for that new tab be a lovely travel photo, but there is also a trivia aspect to the plugin. You can guess where the photo was taken! I screenshot a bunch of examples for you to see. If you are right, obviously they will tell you you are right. If you are wrong, they will tell you how far away you were from the correct answer and tell you the correct answer as well. Most times there is a hint on the top of the screen. What is also really cool is that some of the pictures are not simply pictures, but move or are sort of like videos. For example, I’ve seen a few aerial city shots where you can see the traffic whizzing by on the streets below.
Here’s an example of the backgrounds that move!
It’s safe to say that I’m absolutely loving this plugin. It makes opening a new tab more fun and I have to say the trivia aspect makes it even better. Honestly, I would like this plugin for the changing photos alone but add in the trivia and I love it even more. If you’re interested in trying the plugin yourself you can find it here. But be warned, it may give you a serious case of wanderlust!
