Healthy for the Holidays? Think About These 7 Tricks

For you Christmas is all about indulging in delicious food, spending time with your loving family and taking some much needed time off work. You don’t always associate the holidays with the most healthy moments of your life, but why can’t you? Being healthy all year round is more sustainable than you think, especially when you have the correct tools and knowledge to make it happen. Whether you’re trying to improve your heart health or make the atmosphere in your home more eco-friendly, there are so many ways to boost your health for the holidays. Having good health isn’t just about being physically fit; it is also about having a positive mental state. The cold and dark days can often bring people’s moods down at this time of year so consider how you could improve your mind and body right now. The following tricks will help to improve your overall mental and physical wellbeing, without even changing your daily habits too much. Take note and enjoy incorporating them into your day to day life this holiday season!

1.Cleaning Products

You tend to keep your home relatively clean, but you have never thought about all the chemicals you are pumping into your home on a daily basis. In order to start your healthier way of life you might want to consider an organic cleaner. This might feel way out of your comfort zone but if you opt for the citrus spice winter wishes kit, you will be feeling super festive even when cleaning the kitchen! By removing all of the toxins from your day to day life your body will start to feel cleansed, refreshed and ready for you to take on some more healthy habits.

  1. Keep Your Diet in Check

It’s all fun and games sipping on hot cocoa, eating Christmas pudding and trying to eat all of the roasted potatoes from the platter, but how good does all of this really make you feel? You might want to consider these treats in moderation, otherwise you are going to feel tired and lethargic as soon as you have finished your festive meal. Eat everything in small quantities and allow yourself a small treat. Enjoy the delicious wholesome vegetables instead of reaching for the carbs and sugar right away!

  1. Don’t Forget to Move Your Body

We all know the feeling of slumping down on the sofa after a heavy Christmas dinner, but you should be taking yourself outside for a much needed walk. Even if you only get out of the house for twenty minutes on Christmas day, you will feel much better after a little bit of fresh air. There is nothing worse than feeling full and uncomfortable, so much so that you need to unbuckle your belt. Enjoy moving your body and you will be able to work up an appetite again for more treats in no time.

  1. Prioritize Your Sleep

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for your overall health, but sleep cycles can go way out of the window during the holiday season. It is so much more fun staying up late at night and watching festive movies on Netflix, but your body will soon start to suffer if you keep on doing this. Listen to your body and allow yourself to rest whenever you need it. Prioritizing is important no matter what time of year it is, so enjoy getting some much needed shut eye at the end of a busy day.

  1. Fighting off the Flu

When you start to develop a cold right before Christmas you need to nip that in the bud as quickly as possible. Stock up on natural remedies such as honey and lemon; dosing up on these organic remedies will help you to fight off the flu in no time. Drink plenty of fluids, have a rest day and allow your body to just relax. Pushing through an illness can sometimes make it worse, so make sure you listen to your body at all times.

  1. Reduce Your Stress Levels

Depending on your job, you might have a stressful Christmas rush at this time of year. Being run off your feet during the festive season isn’t fun at all, so find some ways to reduce your stress levels if you can. Whether you’re finishing your Christmas shopping way before you have to or ordering your family holiday cards on your lunch break, there are ways to be productive and prepared without burning out completely.

  1. Enjoy Some ‘Me Time’

Being around family and friends at this time of year is truly enjoyable, but introverts can often struggle with the big events and dinners. If you think you’re lacking a bit of much needed ‘me ‘time’ then why not escape from the madness for a short time? Nip upstairs and read a chapter of your book or go for a brisk walk in the snow. Do whatever makes you feel fulfilled and relaxed and you won’t feel like you’re missing out on precious time with yourself. Of course the holidays are all about spending time with the people you love, but you can’t forget to keep loving yourself during the process too.

Nowadays everybody wants to live a healthier and happier life, but plans can go downhill as soon as mince pies and turkey are involved! Instead of conforming to the unhealthy habits of the holidays, it’s time to create your own path. Adopting healthier regimes will help you to conquer your goals quicker and feel more energized throughout the day. Don’t use the excuse of Christmas to get lazy and neglect the cleanliness in your house; make a change for the better and you will soon be able to reap the benefits. Whether you’re investing in all natural cleaning products or you’re taking some much needed time out, just know that you are investing in your long term health. Find the methods that work for you and enjoy a healthier and happier you this festive season.
