4 Simple Diet Changes That Improve Heart Health
It’s always important to look after your heart. People often think that it’s only something you should be concerned about as you get older and, while it’s more of an issue as you age, you should always be taking steps to improve your heart health. If you’re healthy now, it’ll help you to avoid any problems in the future. There are quite a few different ways to keep a healthy heart. Exercise is a great way to improve heart health but even if you’re very active, your diet can have a big impact. If you’re worried about protecting your heart health, you should make these simple changes to your diet.
Cut Out Fried Foods
Fried foods are one of the worst things you can eat if you want a healthy heart. They might be delicious but everybody knows that they’re terrible for you and you should consider cutting them out. The good news is, there are some great alternatives. For example, instead of fries cooked in a big pan of oil, get yourself an air fryer and use that instead. In fact, you can use an air fryer to cook most of the stuff that you usually deep fry. You can also just roast things like potatoes in the oven instead of frying them. They might not be quite the same but it’s a lot better for your heart.
Coconut products are massive in the health industry at the minute. People are using coconut oil instead of normal cooking oil (that’s a good tip if you absolutely have to pan fry things). Coconut water is great for your health too. There are a lot of different benefits of drinking coconut water and some studies suggest that it’s good for your heart health. It’s important to remember that those results aren’t conclusive but it’s certainly better for you than alcoholic drinks or soda so if you’re drinking a lot of either of those, a switch to coconut water is always a bonus.
Cut Portion Size
How much you eat is just as important as what you eat and a lot of us are eating too much. If you’re loading up your plate and then going back for seconds, you’re eating far too many calories. Doing that on a regular basis is bad news for your heart health, and your health in general. It’s best to cut back on portion sizes if you can. The easiest way to do that is just get a smaller plate and make an effort to only eat one serving at each meal.
Whole grains are a great ingredient that regulates blood pressure and improves heart health. It’s very easy to get them into your diet because you can swap out a lot of your regular foods for whole grain versions. Whole grain bread instead of white bread, brown rice, and wholemeal pasta are all great substitutions to make.
If you make these simple changes to your diet now, you can protect your heart health for years to come.
Do you have an air fryer?!? I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one but I haven’t heard any real-life reviews yet to help me make my decision!
I don’t personally have one but my parents do and they love it!
