How to Become the Best Version of Yourself

If you want to become a bigger and better person, then you first need to know that only you can make this happen. You have the power to change anything you want, and the sooner you can get yourself into this positive mindset, the better.

Show Up
If you have always wanted to run a marathon, but you have zero experience then you shouldn’t keep putting it off. You don’t need experience to just give it a go. The first step is actually showing up in the first place. If you only end up running 5% of the marathon then you are 5% closer to your goals than you were to begin with. By doing this, you can then set the bar for yourself, so next time you can push yourself even harder. You might be more motivated to train, so the next time you can run 10%. Either way, it all starts with that initial push and believe it or not, you are usually the one limiting yourself.

Small Steps
It’s so important that you take smaller steps. Take the above for example, you wouldn’t start running a marathon with the intentions of completing it in record time, on the first go. It’s quite a feat after all, but that shouldn’t stop you from trying. Take small steps and work your way towards who you want to be. If you want to be better off financially then you might want to try and put some money away every week. After that, you can invest in a savings account and even cut down on your expenses. You may then be able to hunt for a new job that pays a higher salary, and move house so you can cut down your rent. As you can see, all of these steps may seem small or broken up, but when you combine them all you will soon find that it can make a major difference to your life.

Don’t Think About Other People’s Expectations
You should know the best version of yourself and who you want to be. Don’t compare yourself to the expectations that other people have, or what they want for you. This won’t get you anywhere, and when you do achieve your goals, you probably won’t feel any satisfaction from it. If you find it hard to know where you want to be or what you need to do, then start by writing down some of your goals and ambitions. You can even write down a bucket list as well, as this can help you to work out where your path in life is taking you.

There’s No Shortcut
There is absolutely no shortcut to being a better version of yourself. You need to put the work in to try and concentrate on the way that you are and the way that you come across to other people. This will take time, in fact, sometimes it can take years. Either way, it doesn’t matter how long it takes or how hard you have to work because when you are able to get to where you need to be in life then this will be its own reward. You will feel more confident and you will believe in yourself more as well.

Use Twitter
It really has never been easier for you to get in touch with influential people. You can use social media to make that happen, and it doesn’t take long either. So many people worry about talking to influencers or even businessmen because they feel as though they are in a league above them. They also feel as though they won’t have time for them, and that they just aren’t interested. This is never the case, and you would be surprised at how many people are out there and willing to help you. So if you want to get a new job, talk to some of the people who you want to work with. Talk to employers, and ask them what they are looking for in a candidate. This way, you aren’t pouncing on them with a job offer. You are talking to them about the prospects of working for them, and this can get you a lot further. Sure, some people may not be interested in talking, but they really are the minority and the more you can connect yourself, the better you’ll feel. You never know when the next opportunity is around the corner.

Don’t Sweat It
As long as you know that you are moving in the right directions, you really don’t need to worry about the finer details. You probably won’t have the knowledge you need to get where you need to be, but this isn’t a bad thing. Becoming the best version of you is all about the journey you take to get there, so if something goes wrong along the way or if you feel as though there are bumps in the road then this isn’t a bad thing. In fact, it’s to be expected.

Don’t Count the Hours
Don’t look back and think how long you have been on the journey for. Also, don’t count the years and measure your results with criticism. Sure, it might take you 2 years to change your job, but this doesn’t mean that you aren’t making progress. The more you count the hours, or years, the less enjoyable the journey will be. Think about it, if you went on a treadmill and looked down at the timer every couple of seconds, you probably wouldn’t enjoy the run. If you were to put some music on and lose yourself in it however then you would probably have way more fun. You might even look down at the clock and be surprised at how far you have come. The same concept applies to life. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to achieve a goal because as long as you are making progress then that’s all that matters. If you force yourself to make a change in a specific amount of time, then you may find that you end up making bad decisions. Don’t count the hours, the months or the years. Let them pass you by. Instead, count the results and the progress you have made.

Celebrate the Little Things
Sometimes, you just need to celebrate the little things. If you want to change your job for example, then you might go for a couple of interviews. You might get offered one job out of the ten you go for, but if this is the case then you should still accept it as a win. You will never really learn anything if you keep on denying yourself victories. You should also embrace failure to some extent as well. you will never get anywhere in life if you keep on playing it safe. Sure, getting fired from your job can be difficult and you may see this as a failure, but in some ways, it could be the best thing that ever happened to you. If you see everything you do in life as being a failure then you will never be able to accept the small victories. If you see everything as being a success, then you will never learn anything. Finding the right balance is crucial here, as it will help you to grow as a person and that’s what self improvement is all about.

Workout
Believe it or not, working out is one of the best ways for you to make yourself feel better. When you exercise, you can push yourself like never before and this can really help you to improve your physical and mental potential. It can also show you that you are capable of things you never thought you were as well. For example, if you manage to bench press a higher weight than you expected then this is only a good thing. Sometimes a physical change is required in order for you to make a mental change, and the sooner you understand this the better.

Self-Care
Self-care is a huge part of your personal journey. The more you focus on yourself, the better. This involves setting some time aside for yourself every single week. This could involve doing a cross-stitch, watching your favourite show or even just relaxing with a good book. When you do this, you can then process the week, get away from work and even give yourself the time you need to unwind. If you don’t do this then it is very easy for the stress of life to become too much, and this can have a huge impact on your personal journey and the way that you feel as well.

There really are plenty of things that you can do to try and help yourself. There are also things that you can do to become a better person, and by following the above tips, you can be sure to make a change that will really benefit you not only now, but in the future as well.
