4 Common Causes Of Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain is a fairly common ailment that a lot of people of all ages suffer from. Sometimes, it can be caused by an injury, other times by something more long term. Whatever the reason, it can be difficult to deal with because it’s a fairly active part of your body and it takes a long while to heal when you’re constantly moving your shoulder joints. If you’re going to deal with shoulder pain effectively, it’s important to understand the different causes so you can try to avoid it in the first place and effectively deal with it when it does happen. These are some of the most common causes of shoulder pain.

Workout Injuries
When you’re exercising regularly, there is always the chance that you’re going to sustain an injury, especially if you’re doing things like weight lifting or contact sports. It’s important that you take steps to avoid injury in the first place like making sure that you’re using the correct form, taking regular rest days, and using the right workout gear like proper running trainers etc. But even if you’re doing all of that right, there is still the chance that you will sustain an injury. In that case, it’s important that you stop your workout routine right away before you do any more damage. Go and see your doctor and get their advice on how long it will take to heal. It’s important that you let it heal fully and don’t start working out too soon, otherwise, you’ll just injure yourself again and it will likely be worse the second time around.

Diaphragm Problems
A lot of people that complain about general shoulder pain in one side assume that the problem is in the shoulder but it’s actually elsewhere. If you have problems with your diaphragm, for example, that pain can extend upwards into the shoulder even though there is no damage there. If you experience a lot of shoulder pain when breathing, that’s a sign that you may have a problem with the diaphragm or the liver, rather than the shoulder itself. The pain tends to be a deep, achy pain that isn’t localized to a single area, rather than a specific sharp pain.

Tight Muscles
When the muscles in your shoulders get tight and you develop knots, it can lead to a lot of pain. This is a big problem for people that work in office jobs because they’re sitting hunched over at a desk all day long and the muscles get tight. If that sounds familiar, you need to make an effort to get up and move around as much as possible and do some stretches every day. If it’s particularly bad, you should get a massage to work out the knots and loosen the muscles up.

Bursitis
Your joints have sacks of fluid called bursae which provide cushioning and stop the joints from rubbing against one another. In some cases, people develop bursitis when the sacks get inflamed and the joints start to rub against one another. If you think that this might be your issue, it’s important that you see a doctor.

These are the most common causes of shoulder pain that you need to be aware of if you’re going to treat it effectively.
