Most of us consider our health and wellbeing on a day to day basis. We know that we need to eat a healthy, balanced diet to give our bodies the energy and nutrients they need to keep us in good shape. We aim to exercise sufficiently, to build muscle, strength and stamina and to maintain good cardiovascular health, balance, flexibility and more. But as well as the bigger picture, we also need to focus on more specific parts of our body to ensure that everything is working as it should be. One part of many of our bodies that gets relatively neglected is our feet. Our feet are actually pretty complex structures. They’re made up of bones, ligaments and muscles that all work together to ensure we can stand up, walk, run, and engage in other activities. Here are a few different things you can do to keep your feet healthy!

Keep an Eye on Your Feet
Just like any other body part, you should keep an eye on the health of your feet. If you notice any changes in your feet, you may need to consult a doctor for advice and treatment. There are various skin conditions that can impact your feet, due to them often being tucked away in shoes and socks. Common conditions include corns, calluses, bunions, verrucas, athlete’s foot, dry and cracked heels and more. You can research these common conditions online and find out What You Should Know About Athlete’s Foot. Your doctor may also be able to provide prescription treatment!

Visit a Podiatrist
If you have ongoing problems with how your feet function, you may want to visit a podiatrist. This specialist will be able to help you with more structural issues with your feet, such as flat feet, heel pain, and sports injuries. Your visit will consist of a full examination, followed by a diagnosis of any issues you may be experiencing. Your podiatrist will then be able to give you tailored advice on which treatments will suit you best and what lifestyle changes you can make reduce chances of your condition growing worse. If you are recovering from a condition, they will be able to advise you on how to prevent it from returning in the future.

Have Regular Pedicures
Most people consider pedicures a relaxing treatment or an aesthetic treatment. It’s a great excuse to sit down for a while with your feet in the tub and your feet are left looking great. But it’s important to remember that pedicures are good for your feet too. During your pedicure, a training professional will remove any dry skin from your feet, trim down excess or overgrown cuticles, and cut down, shape, and polish your toenails. Removing dead skin doesn’t just soften your feet. It also reduces your risks of developing bacteria that can make your feet smell. The buffing that takes place during a pedicure can reduce your chances of developing calluses. Maintaining your toenails reduces your chances of developing ingrown toenails.

Taking proper care of your feet is an extremely important process that you should implement in your day to day life. The good news is that it is simple to look after your feet and you shouldn’t have to alter your lifestyle much to reap the benefits of happy, healthy feet!
