How to Cook Healthy When You Have No Time

Many of us are so pressed for time that we end up eating takeout meals or restaurant food more often than not, and although it is undoubtedly delicious, it is not always the best option for us in terms of calorie consumption or nutritional value.

If you often feel like you have no time to cook for yourself, but you want to do so in order to ensure you eat as healthy and balanced a diet as possible, here are some tips that should enable you to cook more often, no matter how pressed for time you might be:

Prep produce in advance

If you have no time to cook during the week because of work and other important commitments, something that can definitely help is spending a little time at the weekend on prepping your fruit and veggies. Most produce can be peeled and chopped in advance and stirred in the fridge or freezer until you need it, which should give some significant time off your cooking later in the week.

Invest in a slow cooker

Slow cookers are perfect for people who do not have a lot of time to cook in the evenings because you can cook tasty meals like this spicy crockpot buffalo chicken in advance. Simply place all of the ingredients you require into the slow cooker and set the timer. When you get home, you will have a hot and healthy meal ready to serve up, what’s not to love about that?

Cheat a little

There is nothing wrong with cheating a little to save time in the kitchen, and these days, grocery store cheats can be pretty healthy. From buying pre-prepped vegetables to picking up a rotisserie chicken on the way home, there are lots of things you can do to speed up the cooking process without sacrificing your health or flavor!

Make use of the microwave

Pre-packaged microwave meals might be packed with salt and additives that make them unhealthy, but that doesn’t mean you should never use your microwave. If you’re short on time you can do everything from scrambling eggs to steaming veggies quicker in the microwave, and the end result will be just as healthy as if you’d cooked them the time-consuming way.

Pound your meat

Using a meat tenderizers to really pound your meat until it is much thinner will mean that it will cook much faster too. So, if only chicken will do but you don’t have the time to cook it as you usually would, get the tenderizer out and pound it until it’s thin enough to stir fry in a few minutes.

Make a one-pot meal

One-pot meals like vegetable soup or tortellini with broccoli are less time-consuming because you simply throw all the ingredients into the one pot, which means less prep time and less clearing up to do too!

As you can see, even if you only have a little time to cook, there are various hacks you can employ to make it possible and ensure that you always get something good to eat.
