Books to Song Lyrics: This Love

I’ve always loved Taylor Swift’s song “This Love” and my love for it was only reinforced when she rereleased it. I decided to make it my next “books to song lyrics” installment.

The part of the song I chose is:

• “This love is good” – In Mixed Signals , Layla has had years of bad luck with dating and Caleb tries to show her the kind of love she deserves.
• “This love is bad” – In The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Evelyn had some good or even great relationships even if they didn’t all last. But, she also had some husbands who were truly awful.
• “This love is alive back from the dead” – In One True Loves , Emma has moved on from unbelievable heartbreak when her high school sweetheart/husband is in a fatal helicopter crash over the Pacific. She goes back home and after a couple of years begins to move on with her life and reconnect with an old friend. They fall in love and get engaged and then she receives a call from her husband that he is still alive.
• “This love came back to me” – In The Dead Romantics , Florence has writer’s block after a bad breakup, much to the chagrin of her new editor. She doesn’t believe in love anymore so how can she write a love story? When she returns home for her father’s funeral (and her family runs a funeral home) she is visited by the ghost of her new editor who tries to get her to believe in love again.
• “This love left a permanent mark” – In A Court of Thorns and Roses when Feyre makes a deal with Rhysand to help her Under the Mountain, it leaves a tattoo on her forearm.
• “This love is glowing in the dark” – In Gleam , Auren is gold and I always think if her and her ribbons as glowing. Metaphorically, when Auren learns the truth about all the things she’s been blind to in this book and finds love with Slade it’s like she comes to life. I could’ve chosen the fourth book, Glow, but I think she really comes into her own in Gleam.
• “This love came back to me” – You Deserve Each Other is the ultimate second chance romance. Naomi and Nicholas are engaged, but not really feeling in love these days. In fact, they don’t even really want to marry each other anymore, but whoever breaks off the engagement has to pay for the wedding so they mess with each other to try to get the other to break it off. In messing with each other they actually find their way back to each other.
