Book Review: Down a Bad Road

I was sent Down a Bad Road by Regina Buttner to review and I have pretty mixed feelings about this suspense novel.

The novel follows a few different characters in upstate New York. Ron Burley is single, in his 30s or 40s (I don’t remember if they say his exact age) and manages a local mini-mart. He’s never had the desire to settle down, but then he meets Lavender LeClaire. Lavender is a married mother in her late 20s whose son plays soccer with Ron’s nephew. Lavender is bored in her marriage and decides to flirt with Ron and maybe start up an affair. Ron has never had an affair with a married woman, but something about Lavender intrigues him. At the same time, an old friend/girlfriend from Ron’s teenage years, Marta, reaches out to him wanting his help and she has always seemed a bit unstable.

The book really had me hooked. It was hard to put the book down because I wanted to see what would happen. However, none of the characters were likable. They were actually all pretty horrible people and not the brightest lol. Marta was crazy, Ron made bad decision after bad decision, Lavender was a cheater. Possibly the only likable character was Lavender’s husband who seemed like a really good guy.

Overall, the book was really engaging and hard to put down, but I didn’t like any of the characters and wasn’t rooting for any of them lol.
