Book Review: Happy Place
I’m a big Emily Henry fan and have loved all the books I’ve read by her. Her latest book, Happy Place is no exception. I can’t decide if it’s tied for first place with Book Lovers or if it’s tied at second with Beach Read. Although those two are kind of neck in neck so maybe this is just in that mix too. People We Meet On Vacation was amazing too, but I just liked the others a bit more.

Happy Place is a second chance romance with a sort of fake dating thing going on. It takes place in present day with flashbacks over the years. It follows Harriet, a surgical resident, who has spent a week every summer at a seaside cottage in Maine with her best friends since college. One of those best friends is her ex-fiancΓ©, Wyn. Wyn and Harriet broke up months ago, but have not told anyone for various reasons including it being too painful to talk about. And now they are both in the cottage with their best friends, where they always have the best time. They decide now is not the right time to tell everyone that they’re no longer together. They don’t want to ruin the week for everyone, so they will pretend that they’re still together until the end of the week.
It’s difficult for Harriet and Wyn to have to pretend they’re still in love in front of their friends while being heartbroken, but it’s even harder when they’re still in love with each other.
The book was so good. I loved it. The banter was classic Emily Henry and the back and forth between Harriet and Wyn over the years and in present day was so good. The love they have and had for each other and also the hurt they were both feeling was really emotional and heart wrenching. The book was an emotional rollercoaster for sure, but it was so good.
The book also deals a lot with friendship and family too. People growing up and relationships changing, expectations we have for ourselves and others etc.
I love Harriet and Wyn so much! This book also made me want to go to Maine and eat all the lobster rolls.
Side note: How cute is this floral jumpsuit? I think the floral print is sold out, but it’s still available in black (which I also have) and another color. I’ve linked to it below. It’s super comfortable too.
