Book Review: The Bodyguard

I’ve heard great things about Katherine Center books and also about her book The Bodyguard that came out last year. I read it earlier this week!

The Bodyguard is a bodyguard (obviously) romance with the fake dating trope. The novel follows Hannah Brooks, an executive protective agent. She may look like a sweet kindergarten teacher, but she is trained to kill someone with a pen or napkin. After going through some personal turmoil – her mother passes away and her boyfriend, a fellow agent and coworker, dumps her the day after, Hannah is assigned a new job. She gets assigned to protect Jack Stapleton, a Hollywood heartthrob. Jack is in Texas and staying at his family ranch while his mom is ill, but needs protection because he has a stalker. The job is pretty straightforward and the stalker has never exhibited signs of violence so it should be easy to protect him. However, things get complicated when Jack reveals to Hannah that he doesn’t want his family to know about the stalker and the only way she’ll be able to be with him all day long for weeks is if she pretends to be his girlfriend. What happens when Hannah and Jack have to be together 24/7 and pretend to be a couple in love?

This book was a great read and the chapters were so short that it was addictive to keep reading to see what would happen next! To be honest, it did take me a few chapters to get into the book. I wasn’t hooked immediately and it made me worry a little that I wasn’t going to like the book as much as I thought I would, especially since it’s so well loved. But after a few chapters, I really got into it and I loved Hannah and Jack. The book is a closed door romance so if you want a sweet romance with no spice, definitely give this a read!
