Book Review: Broken Bonds
The Bonds that Tie series by J. Bree has been on my tbr for over a year and I bought the special edition set from The Bookish Box months ago even before reading any of them. I finally read book 1, Broken Bonds, earlier this week and I’m really enjoying the series so far!

Broken Bonds follows teenager Oleander Fallows or “Oli”. In the world this series is set, people are either gifted or giftless. If you are gifted it means you have some sort of supernatural power. Most people have bonds or people they are fated to be with and you can be bonded to more than one person. If you’re the central bond then you have multiple people who are bonded to you. If you’re one of the bonds then you are only bonded to the central person. Oli is the central bond and has 5 bonds: Gryphon Shore, Atlas Bassinger, Gabriel Ardern, North Draven, and Nox Draven. However, 5 years ago when she had just found out who her bonds were, the Resistance attacked her family leaving only her alive so she has been on the run to protect her bonds.
However, her bonds don’t know why she ran and have been trying to track her down. They finally find her at the start of the novel, make her stop running, and put her into Draven University. The guys are all pretty hostile towards her since they are mad she ran away for years. Not only are they mad she left, but bonded people need to consummate their relationships in order to come into their full powers. They also think she’s giftless, because she’s been keeping her true power hidden in order to protect everyone, especially her bonds. Will she be able to keep the guys safe even if it means they hate her? Can she stay hidden from the Resistance now that she’s not on the run anymore?
I really liked this book and it definitely has me hooked now and I need to find out what happens next in the series! I like Oli and I can’t wait to see what happens when the guys realize she’s been doing all these things they hate her for, for them. Of the bonds, I really like Gabriel and Gryphon. Atlas seems really sweet, but a little possessive and not in a hot way – in a sort of annoying way lol. North, I think is going to be surprisingly amazing in future books and perhaps Nox too.
Read this if you want to read a spicy, paranormal romance with the why choose/reverse harem trope!
