Book Review: The Catch
It’s the end of an era – The Catch by Amy Lea is the last book in her Influencer series and it was so good just like Set On You and Exes & O’s.

The Catch follows Crystal and Tara’s best friend, Melanie Karlsen, whom we learned in the previous books is also an influencer. Crystal is a fitness influencer, Tara is a book influencer, and Melanie does fashion and beauty. When the novel begins, Melanie is feeling a little lost. Her social media presence isn’t as popular as it used to be, her opportunities are waning, and her best friends are happily married or engaged while she’s still single. When a resort in Nova Scotia reaches out to her and offers her a week stay there in exchange for some content, she thinks this could be a great opportunity. But a mishap at the resort leaves her without a place to stay for a week until they can accommodate her. With it being tourist season, Melanie has a hard time finding a place to stay until she comes across an inn in a small town.
When Melanie arrives, her and one of the owners, Evan Whaler (also a lobster fisherman), start off on the wrong foot. She thinks he’s a rude grump and he thinks she’s an entitled American, city brat. But when Evan has to go to the hospital, unconscious, after a boating accident when he takes Melanie on a tour she pretends to be his fiancée in order to be let in to see him. What she doesn’t expect is for his family to arrive before she can leave and for them to really believe she’s Evan’s fiancée.
This romcom was so funny and I loved the tension and angst between Mel and Evan. The banter was really good and I loved all the characters. The book is advertised as a mashup spin on While You Were Sleeping and The Proposal and I love both of those movies so I knew I would love this book! I loved Mel and Evan and what they brought out in each other.
It’s sad for this series to be done, but the last chapter and epilogue were a nice ending for all!
Read this if you want a spicy romcom with the grumpy sunshine, fake dating tropes.
