Book Review: The Annihilator
While I was on vacation in Portugal, I read The Annihilator – the 5th book in the Dark Verse series by RuNyx.

It’s hard to talk about this book without giving spoilers so I’ll keep this short!
This novel follows The Shadow Man, who we’ve seen glimpses of in the previous 4 books. He’s made little appearances throughout the series – always mysterious and the other characters haven’t been able to figure out who he is or how he knows what he knows. They never even get a good look at him when he shows up, but he always leaves them clues or points them in the direction they should be looking for more information. We learn about him in this book as well as Lyla – a young woman who has been held by The Syndicate since she was a little girl. But, for the past 6 years whatever man tries to buy Lyla (she gets auctioned off by The Syndicate) meets a violent death before they can touch her.
We learn more about The Shadow Man (his real name is revealed in the book) and Lyla throughout the novel and how they have gotten to know each other over the years as well as why he is so protective over her but hasn’t gotten her out yet.
I continue to love this whole series, but this book was not one of my favorites of the series. It is probably my least favorite. I liked The Shadow Man and Lyla, but felt like the book was a little slow and that not a lot really happened for how long it was. Some crucial information is revealed in this book, but besides that there wasn’t a lot going on besides the inner turmoil of the characters but even that seemed to drag on.
Nevertheless, I’m excited to see how it will all wrap up in the 6th and final book. RuNyx hasn’t revealed the release date yet, but she says it will be this year!
