Book Review: Vengeance of the Pirate Queen

If you’ve been following my blog since last summer then you might remember that last summer I did a “summer of pirates” theme and read a handful of pirate romances. Two of the books I read were Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen by Tricia Levenseller. Last fall the spinoff book in the series, Vengeance of the Pirate Queen was released and I just read it last week!

The first two books followed Alosa and Riden and this one follows Sorinda. This third book picks up shortly after the end of the second book. Alosa is now the Pirate Queen and Riden is her consort. Sorinda, who was a side character in the first two books, is one of Alosa’s closest friends and an assassin. She has been going after the enemies of Alosa since the end of Daughter of the Siren Queen. Now, Alosa has a new mission for her. A few girls who were spies on one of the land king’s ships have not sent any communication back in a while and no one knows where the ship is but they do know in what direction they were heading. Alosa tasks Sorinda with captaining her own ship and looking for the girls. But she will have to go through dangerous waters. Sorinda isn’t sure she would make a good captain as she’s quiet and likes to keep to the shadows (that’s what makes her a good assassin), but Alosa believes in her and she doesn’t want to let her friend and Queen down. Since the voyage will be dangerous, Alosa sends along her best helmsman, Kearan, as the sailing master. He’s Sorinda’s best chance at navigating through the dangerous northern waters and make it through alive, but the only problem is she can’t stand him and is pretty sure he has a crush on her.

I really enjoyed this book and love the evolution of Kearan from the first two books. He is just so likable and adorably persistent. I really liked Sorinda too, but found her stubbornness to get a little tiresome at times. But, it was great to see her evolve too and learn to open up. And since this is a pirate book I have to say that I did I love the adventure Sorinda, Kearan, and the crew including the always adorable Rosalyn went on.

I hope Tricia Levenseller writes books for Alosa’s other 2 best friends, Mandsy and Niridia too!
