You’ve Redecorated Your Home’s Interior – Now It’s Time For The Exterior!
The exterior of your home has just as much say over how well you’ve designed your space as the interior. In fact, seeing as it’s the facade every person who passes will see, it might even be the defining factor!
If the front of a property looks welcoming and cared for, you’re going to expect the same of the inside. If the front of the property is overgrown and seemingly falling to pieces, the state of interior may leave a lot to be desired.
That’s why, whenever you redecorate inside, you should think about redecorating outside as well. Your home’s curb appeal isn’t just for valuation purposes; it’s something you can take pride and enjoyment in as a homeowner too.
Don’t let the brickwork go neglected a day longer! Here are a few jobs you might want to complete if your exterior view has gone without TLC.
Decorate with the Sun
Before you get to work on anything, it’s best to plan your exterior redesign carefully. You don’t want to be working in the wind and rain and coming back inside frozen! As such, try to decorate when the sun is out and it’s relatively dry, especially if you’re doing exterior work during the autumn and winter.
If you’re painting the outside of your house or you’re ripping off some old siding or cladding and replacing it, any wet and windy weather will make the job ten times harder. Wet materials are hard to apply in the first place, but if they’re in the middle of drying while it’s raining, they’re just going to slough right off again!
Decorate with the sun as much as possible. Of course, be sure to stay hydrated during and make sure that if it gets too hot, you come back inside to cool down again.
Leave a Space for Plants
Landscaping is a crucial part of maintaining the green space around your property, but most people extend this to the backyard only. In comparison, your front garden may just be mown a few times a year and that’s that.
But the more you cut back the lawn and leave it, the less environmentally friendly your front facing garden becomes. Not only that, but a plain lawn that’s been clipped at the edges can end up looking boring and plain and wash out the house behind it!
Prevent this from being a problem by leaving a space for plants and flowers. Shrubs and bushes make perfect pathway borders, as does a bit of texture like gravel or wood chips. Similarly, hanging window boxes and filling them with color will always look good, and the bees will absolutely love having a place to collect nectar (and drop off some pollen!) too.
Wash Down the Brick/Siding
Property exteriors tend to get very dirty. You might not notice it happening, but if you look at a picture of your house from when you first moved in and then compare it to what you see today, you’ll definitely see a difference!
That’s why washing down your exterior walls, both brick and siding types, makes for great outside redecoration. Hire a pressure washing company to get the job done and it’ll be just like you’ve repainted it!
And all you really needed to do was fire a high powered washer at the wall to reveal the beautiful facade beneath. It’s jobs like these that make exterior work all that bit more pleasing. You should be able to have it all done in the space of an afternoon as well.
Replace the Guttering
Guttering takes a battering over the years. It’s something you probably don’t think all that much about replacing, but the longer a gutter is hooked up to your eaves, the more degraded it’s going to get.
Of course, good guttering made of quality material can last for over 20 years at a time. However, if you can’t be sure how old the house itself is and you’re definitely not sure if your gutters and external drains have ever been worked on before, this is a job worth factoring into the budget.
If you’ve just gone through an interior redesign, save some time for your exterior at the end of the project. The more you invest in a cozy and homey look from the outside, the more style and comfort your home will end up having. Even if you don’t have the time for anything else, try to keep the walls clean and shiny!
