Book Review: Pralines & Creamed

I recently read the 2nd book in the Sweet Dreams Mysteries series, Pralines & Creamed, by Elizabeth Maria Naranjo. I found it as easy and fun to read as the first book, Murder by Milkshake.

In this novel we’re reunited with Genevieve Winterland and her best friend Brandon Summers. Brandon’s family’s bookstore is hosting a special author event going on for popular writer, Jack Kelly. Despite the crowds he draws in, Brandon’s dad isn’t thrilled to have Jack at his store because there is some history between Jack and Brandon’s parents. During the event a few odd things happen. Brandon’s dad and Jack have a tense, private conversation where no one could tell what was said, but it seemed like Mr. Summers was threatening Jack. The next odd thing is Jack’s ex-wife barges in to the event to scream at Jack and yell about how bad of a person he is. And the third odd thing that happened at the event? Jack drops dead during the event and it looks like he was poisoned.

Now, Mr. Summers is a prime suspect and Genevieve is determined to prove his innocence and to find the real killer. The novel was really enjoyable and a fun, lighthearted read. Genevieve is determined and focused on clearing Mr. Summers name and she has grown since book 1. In this book, she is still heavily involved in solving the murder but it is less about just wanting to be nosy and moreso her trying to save her best friend’s family.

I really enjoyed the book and love Genevieve and her love for the ice cream shop.
