Book Review: Apprentice to the Villain
Last year I read and loved Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer so I was excited for the 2nd book in the series, Apprentice to the Villain.

The novel picks up shortly after then ending of book 1 where we saw The Villain aka Trystan Maverine get captured by the king. Evie is determined to get him back and together, along with their friends, find a way to save the kingdom because its magic is fading. Evie is willing to do anything to save Trystan and the kingdom, leaning into her more villainous side and soon the public is referring to her as the Apprentice instead of the Assistant.
I loved being reunited with Evie, Trystan, and the others – especially Lyssa (Evie’s little sister) and Kingsley! The novel was a bit slow and I felt at times that nothing was really happening to move the plot forward. However, I still really enjoyed being back in this world and with these characters. It still had it’s humor and charming characters. I love the tension between Evie and Trystan, but I think this slow burn might kill me if they don’t get a little more proactive about their feelings in the next book!
Overall, I enjoyed the book and look forward to seeing what happens next for this crew!
