Book Review: Swift & Saddled

I just finished the second book in the Rebel Blue Ranch series yesterday, Swift & Saddled, by Lyla Sage.

This novel follows Ada Hart and Wes Ryder. Back in the first book, Done & Dusted, we learned that Wes really wanted his dad and brother to be on board with his idea for a guest ranch on their ranch, Rebel Blue Ranch. He wanted to renovate their family’s old house, where his dad grew up, on the other side of their property and use it as a space for people to rent out/stay for a ranch vacation where they could go horseback riding, fishing, hiking, etc. In the first book, Teddy said she’d put Wes and her old college friend in touch with each other because she’s an interior designer.

Fast forward to Swift & Saddled. Ada has just arrived in Meadowlark, Wyoming and is excited for the project she’s been hired for at Rebel Blue Ranch. This could be huge for her career and let her start fresh from her past and rough last few years. She’s been in touch with Weston Ryder via email for the past few months about their ideas for the house. On her first night in town, she goes to the local bar for some food and drinks. She meets a local and there’s in instant attraction. They end up making out but are interrupted by Brooks and Ada runs off. It was unforgettable and they didn’t even know each other’s names! It’s not until the next morning when she arrives at Rebel Blue Ranch that they realize each other’s identities and will be working together for the next few months! Are they going to keep things strictly professional? Or will they explore their attraction to one another while they renovate the guest ranch?

I really liked this book, storyline, and loved Wes. I liked Ada too, but felt her storyline wasn’t developed enough. Wes had a history of depression, but he had it all managed and worked through his issues. Ada had issues from her past, which effected her relationship with Wes and it didn’t really seem resolved. I wish there was a little more closure with that or acknowledgement that she was working on her issues. Regardless, I did love her and Wes together. I loved being back at Rebel Blue and seeing all the other characters again like Emmy, Brooks, Gus, Riley, and Teddy. We got to know Cam a little more in this book too and it makes me really excited to read her book later.

The next book is about Teddy and Gus and I cannot wait for that one, because I think it’s going to be so much fun to read about them since they claim to hate each other so much.

Read this book if you want a spicy small town cowboy romance with the workplace romance trope.
