How to Plan a Coastal Weekend Around Events

No one wants to have any sort of stress when travelling, right? Unless you’re on a business trip, the whole point of travelling is to let loose, relax, and just have a good time. And a lot of people flock to coastal towns for that very reason. So, a coastal weekend plan usually starts the same way every time. Someone suggests a little getaway, everyone gets excited, and then the “planning” immediately becomes a restaurant hunt. Breakfast spot, lunch spot, dinner spot, maybe another café “just in case,” because apparently the fear of not having a croissant within reach is very real.

Well, it’s usually lots of food and browsing shops, especially in the mainstreets and touristy areas, that’s usually how it all goes. And yeah, food is great. Nobody’s trying to cancel brunch. But if the entire trip is built around meals, the weekend can end up feeling oddly… samey (if that makes sense, it gets to a point where it all blends together).

You’re in a coastal town for a reason this weekend, so maybe plan around that rather than food or shopping. But what’s the best way to do that?

Go Ahead and Pick One Highlight First

It’s going to get a lot easier once you start right here. It’s really going to help to just choose one proper highlight first, then build the weekend around it. Well, if this isn’t a spontaneous trip, of course. Like a live show is ideal because it automatically gives the trip a purpose. If you’re going to be in St Annes for the weekend, you could quickly check whats on Saint Annes, maybe there’s live music, theatre, a comedy show, a film screening, well, something that’s going to be worth seeing. Plus, it’s not like you can be at a terrace all day, or stores all day, so this could be a great idea, even for the evening.

Besides, people travel for live shows all the time,  especially during the warmer months, and it makes complete sense. It’s fun, it feels like a treat, and it stops that awkward moment where the destination is reached, and the main plan becomes standing on the promenade thinking, what now?

Build the Day Around the Event

Well, just like what was mentioned, it can really help to have a purpose of going to a coastal town, and it’s going to help even more to have a specific event and then plan around it. Like, why go somewhere for one event and not do anything else? And not even see or experience anything else, right? Sure, people do that for football clubs all the time, but it’s still better to make a whole thing out of it.

So, during this time, you can pick out places to eat, where to walk, when to wake up, shop, well, you get the idea. But the whole point is to avoid the “what now” feeling. So if you have a game or a live show, concert, well, whatever in the evening, guesswhat, you’ve got the whole morning and afternoon to do whatever!

Keep the Rest Simple, Because that’s the Whole Point

Sure, just above it was mentioned you have a free-for-all until it’s time for the event, but it’s still helpful to keep things simple. Some people will have giant lists of what they want to do and try to cram it all in, but that just makes the trip itself stressful. In that case, are you actually experiencing the trip itself or just checking off a To Do list? That’s why you need to just simplify it.
