Convicing You to Read these 5 Books Based on their First Lines
I always get excited to see what the first line of a new book I’m reading will be. Back when I had more time to write fiction, I always tried to think of a really great first line. A lot of times it’s not a hook, but when it is, it’s always so good. I always enjoy putting together these first line posts and I thought it was about time for me to make a new post!

A Witch’s Guide to Magical Inn-Keeping – “It was hardly ideal weather for the resurrection of one’s great-aunt, but Sera Swan’s magical power, while impressive, hadn’t the slightest influence over the obnoxiously blue skies.”
The Pumpkin Spice Cafe – “Jeanie Ellis had never killed a man before, but tonight might be the night.”
Good Spirits – “On the first day of December, the universe gave to me – a bruised knee, a twisted string of garland, and a cat with an attitude problem.”
The Defender – “In my defense, the pub didn’t have an explicit ‘No Miniature Pigs’ rule.”
An Offer from a Gentleman – “Everyone knew that Sophie Beckett was a bastard.”
Do you have a favorite line out of these? I hope one of these first lines makes you want to read the book!
