Downtown Disney

I’m old enough to remember when the Disney Springs in Orlando used to be Downtown Disney. In California, it is still called Downtown Disney and while it doesn’t have the night clubs (I don’t think) like the Pleasure Island section of the old Downtown Disney in Florida it is similar to the new(er) Disney Springs, but smaller. My cousins and I decided not to do a park day on our first full day in California in order to have a more low key day before the 3 park days in a row and also to make sure we were adjusted with the time change.

We spent Friday walking to get breakfast – we ended up at Paris Baguette for some pastries and coffee, walking past lots of streamers because Vidcon was also going on at the convention center across the street from the hotel, and then spending the rest of the afternoon and evening at Downtown Disney. We walked the mile to the Esplanade, which is really cool considering we are used to Disney World where you have to take the monorail, skyliner, or shuttle to get to different parks. Here, you go through security at the main entrance and then you can either go to the left and enter Disney Grand Californian, go straight into Downtown Disney, or go to the right where Disneyland is.

We shopped, walked around, got Happy Ice for a cold treat, and had a dinner reservation at Din Tai Fung. I picked up most of the souvenirs and gifts I needed to get on this day. Downtown Disney isn’t that big so we took a little break inside the Grand Californian Hotel because we didn’t want to have to walk back to the hotel and walk back for dinner.

At some point while we were sitting and taking a little rest, we ended up holding fingers for some reason. We took a photo cause of the hidden Mickey haha.
