Book Review: The Mistletoe Kisser

Last week I finished reading The Mistletoe Kisser, the last book in the Blue Moon series by Lucy Score. Since it’s a holiday book I wanted to to get to it this month for Christmas in July.

The novel follows Samantha “Sammy” Ames and Ryan Sosa. Sammy is a veterinarian in Blue Moon and we’ve met her a few times in the series since she’s the vet that looks after the animals on Pierce Acres and is best friends with Eden Moon from The Fine Art of Faking It. Sammy is always busy helping everyone in Blue Moon – whether it’s as a vet, doing favors for her neighbors, making wreaths to try to fundraise for the animal sanctuary she wants to create, or something else in Blue Moon that needs attention. That leaves very little time for herself. Running herself ragged, she’s unsuspecting when she becomes the newest victim of the Beautification Committee’s matchmaking schemes.

Ryan Sosa is an accountant living in Seattle. He’s very rigid and thrives on to-do lists and routines. He is the great-nephew of Old Man Carson, one of the elders in Blue Moon. When Carson calls Ryan and asks him to come to Blue Moon because he has an emergency and needs help, Ryan flies out to the small upstate New York town. But when he arrives, Carson isn’t even in Blue Moon citing another family emergency that he had to attend to out of town and that Ryan should stay at his farm house and work on Carson’s problem. Supposedly the bank is on the verge of repossessing his farm unless Ryan can make sense of the loan paperwork. Naturally, Rainbow Berkowicz, the bank employee Ryan needs to speak to about his uncle’s loan is not taking any meetings until after Christmas and she’s also one of the members of the Beautification Committee. Suspicious?

Not knowing his way around Blue Moon or how to take care of any of the animals on Carson’s farm, Sammy helps him out even though she has no extra time to be helping him. When she first meets him and he introduces himself as Ryan, Carson’s great-nephew, she thinks she knows him. Carson’s great-nephew, Ryan, came to visit one Christmas when she was 14 and kissed her under the mistletoe – her first kiss! Offended that Ryan doesn’t remember her, they realize he’s not the same Ryan! Carson has 2 nephews named Ryan. Did the Beautification Committee lure the wrong Ryan to Blue Moon? Or is this all part of their plan?

I really liked this book and loved Sammy and Ryan. It was a cute story and I loved how he was a “useful romance” hero as Eva put it and used him as inspiration for her next romance novel. Although the whole story took place in Blue Moon and all the series favorites made appearances in the book, it didn’t really feel like a Blue Moon book and I’m not sure why so that was a tiny bit disappointing considering it’s the last book in the series.

But, regardless, I still did enjoy the book and I will miss Blue Moon!
