Getting Ready for Prom….As a Chaperone
Prom comes around every year and unless you’re a high school teacher, hair stylist, or makeup artist you probably don’t give it a thought when you’re in your 20s. This is my 3rd year as a high school teacher and my 3rd prom as a chaperone. I’ve put together some information and tips on what I wore this year and my reasoning.
The question we all ask ourselves for various events is “What should I wear?” As a chaperone I know I need to dress with a certain degree of conservativeness, but at the same time not “old” because after all I am in my 20s. This is tricky because you don’t want to dress older than you are, but at the same time you need to dress older than the kids! I decided to recycle a dress I had worn before because fancy dresses get very little re-wear and honestly I have so many weddings, engagement parties, showers and things to go to this year that the last thing I needed was to spend money on yet another dress. I decided to wear a knee length, black, strapless dress that was my bridesmaid dress at a wedding last summer. I wore it with a black shrug so I wasn’t showing too much skin and opted not to wear the green sash so that it didn’t look too bridesmaid/wedding-y.
– Dress: davidsbridal.com
– Shoes: Mootsie Tootsie from dsw.com – They’re classy looking and quite cushiony inside which is perfect for being on your feet most of the night.
– Makeup (from left to right): Bare Minerals Luminzer, Mac Fix+, Neutrogena Skin Clearing Mineral Powder, Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Coverage Foundation, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, Benefit Erase Paste, Milani Baked Bronzer, Bare Minerals Lash Domination Mascara, Smashbox HD Concealer, Bare Minerals Blush in “French Kiss”, Bare Minerals Ready Eyeshadow in “September Issue” (I used the pink, purpley/fuchsia,and gold). Nothing on the lips except Blistex because I’ve been battling a cold sore for the better part of a week and it’s been the bane of my existence. This is also why I don’t have a close-up picture!
Hair: Soft curls with my Revlon Curling Iron that I got from Target a year or two ago, Herbal Essences Heat Protectant, and Pantene Hair Spray
So that’s it for my prom as a chaperone post! I don’t think I forgot anything, but feel free to leave questions or your own tips in the comment section!

Wow, this is the trickiest thing to dress for I can think of. I think you nailed it though, it’s appropriate but still young and fresh.
I have a fashion blog if you’d like to check it out: http://thegeekchickblog.com/
