Reality TV – Dancing with the Stars Finale

Some people love reality shows, some people hate them, and others have a love/hate relationship with them. There’s not a long list of reality shows that I do spend my time watching, but I do indulge in the occasional seasons of The Voice (not currently watching), Food Network competitions, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and the like.

A show I’ve been watching on/off for years is Dancing with the Stars. Tonight is the season finale and this season, unlike any other, has had me hooked and borderline obsessed. I’ve watched whole seasons in the past and had a favorite that I hoped would win. I may have even occasionally voted for my favorite and was disappointed if they were eliminated. But I have loved this season so much and voted every week using every available source. Phone – check, Facebook app – check, ABC.com account – check. I’ve also encouraged my friends that watch to vote and recruited friends that don’t watch! I’m very thankful to have friends that embrace my craziness.

By far, my favorite couple this season….or ever…. is Meryl Davis & Maksim Chmerkovskiy. They are amazingggggggg! I can’t help but smile every time they dance and they just make me happy. Yes, I know to some it may seem a little weird to get so involved in a TV show, but isn’t that the point of a reality show? With regular TV shows, writers are hoping to make viewers emotionally invested in the characters. It’s the same or maybe even more so with reality TV, because these are real people (whether they are celebrities or your average person). Not to mention, it’s an interactive experience since viewers get to vote and have a voice in the outcome (and we all love to have our say in things – just take those Goosebump books from childhood where you get to choose which path to go on as an example). Needless to say, I’m completely invested in the partnership between Meryl & Maks – to the point where I’m one of those people that agree with all the things floating around the Internet about wanting to “ship” them.  So there is no doubt that I will be voting for them tonight and hoping that they will win tomorrow night!
