Photo Challenge: Descent
A couple years ago I went to Tennessee with my family. One of the sites we went to see was Lookout Mountain. One way up the mountain is by taking the Incline Railway, supposedly the world’s steepest passenger railway. Luckily, I’m not afraid of heights, so this was a really cool experience and perfect for this week’s photo challenge which was descent.
I remember not being able to get a really good shot from inside the rail car, but this is a shot of the railcar approaching the top of the mountain….or maybe it’s on its way down – it’s really hard to tell and I really don’t remember! Anyway, you can get a sense of the steepness of the tracks and an idea of the descent. From the top of the mountain you can see 7 states (Tenessee (obviously), Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama).
Here’s a shot from the bottom.
It was a cool experience and I had to pick it for this week’s photo challenge, because what better way to represent descent than using a picture of the steepest passenger railway in the world!

Oh, that looks so exciting. I’ll have to check that out if we ever get out of the sunshine state. I remember going to Lookout Mtn. as a teenager and I loved it. I plan on going back, so I thank you for the idea when the time comes. 🙂
