Tips on Saving Time

With a busy work schedule, I’m always looking for ways to save time (it’s a bonus if I can save money too). Dollar Shave Club has a slogan “Shave Time. Shave Money” which inspired me to share the ways I “shave time and shave money”. I thought I’d focus on time on my typical day, especially since during the holidays many of us are even more pressed for time.

  •  Planning clothes out ahead of time

I always pick out what I’m going to wear to work ahead of time. Usually the night before, but sometimes I have an idea in my head even farther in advance. This saves me a ton of time the next morning. I pick out what I’m going to wear and do my ironing the night before so I don’t have to spend time to figure it out the next morning and then once I finally do pick it out, then have to iron it. That would take me forever!

  •  Makeup Basket

This year I’ve been saving a significant amount of time by putting together a makeup basket to use for the work week. Now I don’t have to waste time in the morning trying to decide what I want to use because my options are greatly limited and I just have to make it work no matter what. My makeup look is always based on what I’m wearing. Do I want to wear purple eyeshadow with a red shirt? Not particularly. So my makeup basket always consists of an eye option that is more neutral so it can go with anything and then something with more color because in most cases I would be able to use it at least once during the week.

  •  Coffee

I always have my morning coffee before work. On the rare occasion I’m seriously rushing and don’t have a chance to drink it or if I don’t get to finish it, then I’ll either put it in a to-go cup or in a thermos. I don’t have time to stop for coffee in the morning and making it at home also helps me save money! Don’t get me wrong, I do love my Starbucks, but that’s usually a weekly thing for me not a daily thing. I can’t afford to do that all the time, time or money wise! In order to save even more time, I usually begin drinking my coffee while doing my makeup.

  • Online Shopping

Online shopping and I have a very close relationship. I love online shopping and I do it often. It’s so convenient and it saves me so much time. I can just click click click and not have to drive to the mall and spend time looking around. Plus the malls around the holidays are always so crowded — just the parking alone is a nightmare. Online shopping for the holidays is just so much simpler. Not to mention, I hate when I see something online and then go to the store and it’s not available in the store. Then I get frustrated because I wasted my time going to the mall when I could’ve just ordered online! Don’t forget, most websites offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount and some places are also offering free shipping regardless of how much you spend for the holidays! Another thing I love to use is Ebates because they list all the coupons and deals going on at the moment and if the store you are buying from is part of Ebates you will get money back!

  • Dollar Shave Club

This is a great time and money “shaver” and I think it would also make a great Christmas gift! You never have to go to the store to buy new razors or blades again and for just a few dollars a month you can have these new razor blades directly delivered to you. I know a lot of the commercials make it seem geared toward men (and again I think it would be a really cool, useful, and original Christmas gift!) but women can use any of the products as well. No more forgetting to buy a new razor ahead of time and finding yourself in a “hairy” situation or shaving with a dull razor! I have a friend who is a member and he thinks it’s super convenient and he never has to shave with a dull razor and he only pays $4 a month!

If any of you have any time and/or money saving tips I’d love to hear them!
