Last night were the Golden Globes and as promised I’m writing about my thoughts on the show and fashion. First off, let’s talk about the show in general. I always think the awards shows are too long, but I can’t really think of anything I’d cut out! Maybe the allotted acceptance speech time should be shorter. It might also help if winners aren’t sitting a mile away from the stage! Anyway, I can’t stop watching early because I want to see who wins all the awards and usually the really big ones are at the end, so it would just help if it didn’t end at or later than 11 when I have work the next morning! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were funny as always and they said it would be their last time hosting. It was their 3rd time hosting so I understand them wanting to move on now. I wonder who will host next year?
Okay, onto the real purpose of this post – the fashion! So many amazing, gorgeous looks at the Golden Globes this year, some were pretty but didn’t have that special something that caught my eye meaning I liked them but didn’t love them. There were a couple looks that I was thinking “nooo, whyyyy?!”, but since I try to keep this space positive I’m not going to focus on looks I didn’t like. Plus, they must’ve chosen those dresses because they liked them so who am I to (publicly) say that their dress was “ugly”.
Moving on, I couldn’t narrow it down past a top 10 plus 1 Best Dressed. These are in no particular order, except for my absolute best dressed which will be last. Let’s get to it!
Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein. So, Reese didn’t wear a bright color like I had hoped in yesterday’s post but she sparkled in this gorgeous gown. Like I mentioned, Reese usually goes for a simple look, but I think this gown and her loose side swept waves give a timeless old Hollywood glamour look.
Allison Williams in Armani Prive. I absolutely loved this dress when I saw Allison being interviewed on the red carpet. She said it was all handmade and the detailing looked stunning on camera. I can only imagine how beautiful it must’ve looked in person.
Diane Kruger – This picture doesn’t do this gown justice. On (television) camera, the beading and sparkle of this dress looked beautiful and it had much more dimension to it than what is coming off in this still shot.
Gina Rodriguez in Badgley Mischka. You can’t go wrong with a fitted black gown and Gina stunned in this beautiful black gown. The bottom third of the dress is sheer with what looks to be lace which definitely made the dress a little different. Gina definitely made a splash at her first awards show and congratulations to her on her big win!
Greer Grammer in Lorena Sarbu. Greer might be relatively new to Hollywood, but she is bringing it to the fashion world because I had her on my best dressed list for the People’s Choice Awards last week too! I love everything about this dress. The floral detailing, the colors, the cut. It’s so whimsical and romantic looking. It’s simply amazing.
Chrissy Teigen in Zuhair Murad. Chrissy is always gorgeous and I love that she was able to look sexy yet conservative at the same time. On live camera, the dress looked to be heavily beaded to give it an extra fancy look.
Kelly Osbourne in In Edition by Georges Chakra. Love this gown because it is so simple but not at all boring. It looks so sophisticated and classy. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but when I saw it on live camera, the sleeves had a very cape-like look. I’m also a fan of the jeweled neckline.
Joanne Froggatt – I couldn’t track down the designer of this gown but I just love the color and the jeweled floral design. When looking closer, it looks like the gown is navy blue. It’s possible, it’s black, but it looks blue to my eyes and if it is indeed blue then I like it even more! Congratulations to Joanne on her win as well. I love her on Downton Abbey!
Sienna Miller in Miu Miu. At first, I couldn’t decide what I thought about this dress. But the more I saw it last night, the more I loved it. I love the fit, the cut, the design and the detailing on the trim.
Finally, we’re at my absolute favorite dress of the night! Drum roll please!
Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab. My first reaction when I saw Kate on the red carpet was “Omg, stoppppp”. I’m so serious. I love love love this gown. First of all, Kate Beckinsale always looks absolutely gorgeous and flawless. I love the contrast between the top and bottom halves of her dress, but it’s not so distinctly different that it’s weird – there’s still a nice flow between the two. Her body is perfection so the décolletage and semi plunging neckline look great. I love the sparkle and I appreciate the fact that it’s only on the half top portion of her gown so it’s not too much. Kate is just utter perfection in this gown and that is why she is my top pick!
Did any of you watch or see pictures from the Golden Globes? What are your thoughts?
