Read Across America: Flying High 2
Today is National Read Across America Day so I have a fun children’s book to share with you. Many of you may know that I’m an english teacher as my day job, but what you may not know is that I originally went to school to become an elementary teacher. After graduating, I couldn’t find a teaching job as jobs were pretty scarce and there were way more applicants than there were available positions so I spent about 1-2 years substitute teaching before I got a full-time teaching job at my current school. I got hired to teach high school and haven’t taught lower grades since.
But since I originally planned to teach elementary school I have a soft spot for Read Across America, so when I was sentΒ Flying High 2Β written by NFL player, Julian Edelman I thought it would be a great book to highlight for the celebration.
Flying High 2 is the second book in a series by Edelman and his creative partner Assaf Swissa and centers around a squirrel named Jules. In this story, Jules and his friends are playing a football game against The Falcons who are bigger and faster than them. Jules and his friends don’t know how they can even hope to win against such a good team. What they learn through the game is that if they believe in themselves and work hard they can find success too.
The book is a quick read and perfect for young readers. The illustrations are bright and vibrant and the message is wonderful. It’s important for young kids to learn that hard work and believing in yourself pays off and that they should rise to challenges and not be too afraid to try.
*This book was sent to me complimentary, but all opinions are my own.*
