But what happens if you’re out of work because of a long term health issue or an injury? It could be a long while before you’re well enough to go back to work again and you don’t know whether you’ll have a job waiting for you or not. Even if you do, you still have to work out how you’re going to get by until then. This is what you should do if a long term health problem puts you out of work.

Claim Financial Help
The first thing that you need to do is find out whether you’re entitled to any financial help from anywhere. Speak to your employer first and see how many sick days you have left to take. You should also get in touch with the local authorities and see if there is any financial help that they can offer. You don’t need to be worrying about money while you’re trying to recover so finding some financial assistance is very important.

If you’re out of work because of an injury, you should look into the possibility of making a compensation claim. The injury may have been the fault of somebody else and if that’s the case, they’re liable for it. Speak with a personal injury attorney and explain your situation to them. They will let you know whether you have a case and how to get the process started. If you’re successful, you’ll have a safety net to fall back on and your medical bills will be covered.

Focus On Recovery
The most important thing to remember is that you need to focus on your recovery and try not to worry about work too much. Always take the advice of your doctor and don’t try to resume your normal daily activities until they say that you’re ready, otherwise, you might end up injuring yourself further. When you feel up to it, you should try to do some light, low impact exercises so you can gradually build up your strength again.

Watch Your Diet
Diet is important when you’ve got an injury for two reasons; firstly, you won’t be very active so you’re more prone to putting weight on. Secondly, a healthy diet will help you to recover better so think about what you’re eating. Your body needs plenty of protein to repair muscle tissues, so try to eat plenty of nuts, meat, and fish. You also need a lot of vitamins and nutrients so make sure you’re getting plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet.

Being out of work because of a health problem is tough, but if you follow these steps, you can focus on recovery and get back to work again soon.
