Spa Sciences Microdermabrasion System

Okay, so this system from Spa Sciences is actually called Spa Sciences MIO Diamond Microdermabrasion & Pore Extraction Skin Resurfacing System, but I was not about to put such a long name as the title of this blog post!

I’ve heard about the benefits of microdermabrasion for years and I know a lot of people did/still do see a professional to get it done. I also know that over the years there have been a number of at-home systems. So when I was sent this system from Spa Sciences, I was really excited to give it a try and see if it worked for me. I was especially excited because the system targets many things but two of them are acne scars and dry patches, two things that I suffer from.

I’ve only used the system twice so far – it’s advised to use it once a week when you’re first getting started – so this is going to be more of a first (or second) impression of the tool rather than a review on the long term benefits since I haven’t been using it for long.

The tool comes with the diamond head which is the rejuvenating tip, 3 extracting suction tips of varying sizes, the charger cord, and extra filters.

The tool is fairly easy to use. Wash your face and make sure it’s clean from makeup, etc. Turn it on (obviously) and you can adjust the speed. I have been using it on the lowest speed just because this is completely new for me. Hold your skin taut and run the tool over your face working in small areas at a time and never stopping. Keep the head moving at all times. I was nervous about using the tool. What would it feel like? Would it hurt? Does the diamond rejuvenating tip hurt? Will it scrape my skin? So many questions!

To answer the question, no it doesn’t hurt and like I said it’s fairly easy to use. I’ve only used it on problem areas on my face, never on my entire face. I’ve been using the diamond head to work over my scars/spots/marks on my face and in dry areas particularly around my nose. Then, I’ve been using the suction heads on and around my nose and chin for white/blackheads.

I mentioned that it doesn’t hurt, but I forgot to say what it feels like! It actually just feels like suction. If you linger too long on a spot (remember you’re supposed to keep moving) you can totally feel your skin getting sucked up by the vacuum-like tool. After using it, I rinse my face and then proceed with my normal nighttime skincare routine.

Since I’ve only been using the tool for 1.5 weeks, I can’t say whether it will get rid of marks on my face or prevent me from breaking out and getting new black/whiteheads. However, I can say that I haven’t had any issues or break outs since I started using it. I can also say my face has been nice and smooth and I haven’t noticed any dry areas. And my skin was really dry this past winter so I think the exfoliation that the diamond head offers and the suction in general has helped get rid of those dead skin cells and give me super soft/smooth skin.

I can’t wait to see what the long term effects will be!

Hey Jamie, wondering if you continued to use this tool and if you did what were the results? I also am battling scars on my face so im really curious on what the outcome was for you. I recently bought the mio microdermabrasion (the same one actually) but have only used it two or three times, had a really really bad breakout and never used it again. I wouldn’t blame it on the tool itself iust because there were a number of other things that could have been to blame but im still on edge over if I should give it another try or not….

Hi Cat! I actually haven’t used mine in a while. I started to get professional laser treatments for my scars last summer. I don’t recall having any breakouts when I used it though, but everyone has different reactions to skin tools/products!
