June 2019 Favorites
I can’t believe it’s July! I only have a few favorites to share from June and they’re pretty random so let’s get to it.
Okay, for some reason the last few weeks of work this school year (meaning the first two weeks of June) I was eating the same thing for breakfast every morning on my way out the door – peanut butter on bread. Not toast – just bread. I think I was on a peanut butter kick and it was easy to just spread some peanut butter on bread, put it on a paper towel, run out the door, and eat it in the car on my way to work.
Another food favorite of mine in June was spinach salads. Again, must’ve been on a spinach kick – still am. I made a few different spinach salads, a few times a week, last month and am still eating them. So good and I feel good about eating healthy lunches while I’m off for the summer! The particular one I took a photo of below is just spinach, slice almonds, feta, dried cranberries, and a vinaigrette dressing.
Earlier in the month, I finally got to watch On the Basis of Sex – the movie staring Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer playing Ruth Bader Ginsburg and her husband. I loved the movie so much! It tells the story of the period of Ruth and her husband’s lives when they were at Harvard Law School and starting their careers leading to Ruth’s landmark, career making case on gender discrimination.

My new favorite TV show is Songland. Have you guys watched it? I love it! Each week there’s an a new artist who is looking for a song. We see 4 songwriters sing/pitch their song to the artist and 3 producer/songwriters (Ryan Tedder, Ester Dean, and Shane McAnally). The artist and the producers usually talk with the songwriters and kind of have impromptu, casual jam sessions. The artist picks 3 of the 4 songs to move forward with and those 3 each get assigned one of the producers/songwriters to work on the song and make it work for the artist they’re pitching it to. Then, they present the song again with whatever changes they’ve made to lyrics, tempo, key, etc. and the artist picks one to record! It’s so cool to see how talented these people are and how they work on songs. I have really liked all the songs they’ve made so far especially the one Kelsea Ballerini chose “Better Luck Next Time” and The Jonas Brothers, “Greenlight”. They’re both on my Spotify playlist!

In June, I took my 8th graders on their annual field trip to Six Flags. The Six Flags in NJ is called Great Adventure and it’s supposedly one of the biggest of all the Six Flags in the country. I went on the new ride, Wonder Woman, and it is definitely my new favorite ride. For years, my favorite ride was a rollercoaster there called Nitro, but Wonder Woman has replaced it! It’s the tallest pendulum ride in the world and it seats 40 at a time. The ride spins and goes back and forth and really high! It goes 75 mph and I had to close my eyes because the wind was hitting my face so hard – but it was SO fun! I went on it twice and took a video of it while I waited to go on.

My last favorite for June was the series of tweets that @sixthformpoet posted with 3 real life stories. They had me literally laughing out loud and when I read the tweets out loud to my mom when she was over my house one day I couldn’t stop laughing all over again and she was cracking up too. Here’s a screenshot of the beginning of his story. You should definitely head over to Twitter to read the series of tweets for yourself. Hilarious!
That’s it for my June favorites. A bit random, but definitely loved all these things this month. Oh and honorable mention to The Matrimonial Advertisement that I just finished reading at the end of the month, because I loved that book!
