Apple Picking 2019
It’s been 2 or 3 years since I’ve gone apple picking and I was itching to go and do something fall-ish despite the temperature still being hot. A few of my friends were free last weekend to go so we went to Terhune Orchards in Princeton which I had never been to. I’d heard good things about Terhune over the years so we decided to check it out.
We went mid-morning and it was already really hot out so I’ll preface this by saying we did not stay long since we were all sweating to death in the hot sun. Terhune has 2 addresses and we accidentally went to the wrong address first. That brought us to the farm store, wine tasting, and if you pay an entry fee you can go to where some of the activities, food, corn maze etc is. This area is really cute! We went in to the farm store, I got some apple cider donuts (my fav) at the table outside and we did the wine tasting.
Then we drove about a mile or so down the road to the other entrance which is where the apple picking is. Okay, so a lot of people have told me how nice Terhune is and I was very underwhelmed by the orchard. I’m not sure if this is how it always is or if this year they just didn’t maintain it well, but I didn’t find it that nice. It was just okay and I’ve definitely been to better ones. The grounds didn’t seem that well kept and we didn’t know until later on that we were only supposed to pick apples from the rows that had the signs up on the ends labeling the type of apple in the row. By the time we found out I had already taken a good number of Granny Smith and Golden Delicious apples. I also didn’t really care because no one told us ahead of time so how would we know? And also, it’s not like they could take the apples away from me – what would they do with them? It’s not like they can put them back on the trees!
The only rows I saw with names up were Empire and Red Delicious. I didn’t want Empire and the Red Delicious were all off the trees and on the ground with bugs crawling out! Um, why would those be the kind I can pick and buy?!
Anyway, we didn’t stay long because we were so hot and we had gotten enough of our illegal Granny Smith and Golden Delicious.
Good thing I brought my large panama hat to protect my face from the sun since I had my 2nd laser treatment a few days later (that blog post coming this afternoon).
Despite the actual orchard being just okay, we had a nice morning walking around and getting some apples to take home!
